CHRIS GAYLE

Chris Gayle is a Jamacian player who plays for the West Indies. Famed as the biggest hitter of all time,
Gayle made his first class debut in cricket with famous Lucas Cricket Club in Kingston, Jamaica. He is
hailed as an efficient batsman for playing impressively on square of the wicket . He usually plays as an
opening-batsman.
He captained the West Indies Test Team from 2007 to 2010. With numerous records set in different
batsman ever in Twenty 20 cricket.
Prior to his debut for Jamaica, Gayle played for West Indies at youth international level.

INTERNATIONAL RISE
Despite of having a slow start in international cricket, Gayle soon established himself as a tough
cricketer in 2002 by scoring 1,000 runs in a calendar year. He is one of the only six players in the history
of ODI to have three or more scores of 150.
In 2005, Gayle couldn’t play the first Test against South Africa due to sponsorship issues, but later
returned for the second Test. His impeccable batting skills came out in the fourth Test when he scored
317 runs, the triple century scored against South Africa. In 2006, although West Indies had lost the 2006
Champions Trophy series to Australia, Gayle was named ‘Play of the Series’. He had scored a triple
century and took eight wickets in the series.
Gayle scored 117 against South Arica in the 2007 World T20,and set the first record for the highest
innings in a T20 International. With this century, he also became the first batsman to score a century in
all the three format of cricket.
In 2009, in the Australia vs West Indies third Test, Gayle scored the fifth fastest century in Test match
history. In about a year , he became the fourth cricketer to score to triple centuries in Test cricket.
Gayle scored 215 against Zimbabwe in World Cup 2015 and became the fourth cricketer to score a
double century in ODIs . This run score also made him the player to hit a double century in World Cup
history. Gayle became the only player in the cricket world to hit a triple century in Tests,a double
century in ODIs, and a hundred in T20 International match. On 18 February 2018, he announced his
retirement stating that he would retire from the ODI cricket after the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
