2. Overview

2.1. Subject of this document

Scope of application
The subject of this document is the description and use of the functions of the N3000-SSP01
group alarm annunciator.

Product description
The N3000-SSP01 is a group alarm annunciator for displaying up to 18 alarms (group and/or
individual alarms) by means of labelled illuminated annunciator fields and is installed in
preassembled sections in a switchgear cabinet, control desk or in a cabin wall. It is a slave unit
that is connected to a master controller.

Tasks and functions

 Signalling (visualisation) individual and group alarms from an alarm system (e.g. from
the N3000 system).

Target group for this document

 This document is intended for users of the N3000-SSP01 group alarm annunciator.

This document contains

 Descriptions on how to operate the device and of the device functions.

 Technical data of the device(s).

Please note that this document describes only

NOTICE
a part of your system. The entire system
documentation is always required to
understand the overall system interactions.

2.2. System layout

The N3000-SSP01 is a slave unit that can only be used together with a master controller. It is
normally used in a duty alarm monitoring and control system (see Fig. below).

Slave units are not independent device but rather require a master controller. Up to 31 slave
displays (display type N3000-DSP10, N3000-DSP20) and up to four group alarm annunciators
(N3000-SSP01) are connected via a serial kBus to the N3000-DMPxx. The devices receive
channel information from the N3000 system via this master. The following illustration shows an
example of the possible system layout.
The following illustration shows an example of the recommended system layout.

Fig. 1: System layout - example

Explanation of above illustration

 The N3000-DMPxx is installed in the engine control room. It is connected to the alarm
and monitoring system via a redundant CAN bus and/or Ethernet.

 The slave displays N3000-DSP10 and N3000-DSP20 are connected in the

accommodation and mess rooms as well as on the bridge alongside a group alarm
annunciator N3000-SSP01 on the bridge via the kBus.

 The kBus is layed and connected ideally directly from the engine control room (ECR) to
the bridge and then from the bridge to accommodation to guarantee the highest possible
availability of the connected devices on the bridge.

 In addition, the type N3000-DSP20 slave displays feature an independent fire alarm unit
and can be optionally connected to an external, independent fire alarm system. In this
way, a fire alarm can also be signalled via the slave displays in the quarters.

3. Functional description

3.1. Device functions

Control via software
The 18 illuminated indicator fields on the N3000-SSP01 are individually actuated via the kBus
by the software installed in the master controller. Both group alarms as well as individual alarms
can be signalled.

Control via hardware wiring

The N3000-SSP01 additionally features 4 binary inputs for directly wiring up to 4 freely
selectable illuminated indicator fields. This makes it possible to signal important group or
individual alarms independent of the kBus. These alarms are still signalled in the event of the
master controller failing. An application example of this function are the illuminated indicator
fields for "ME Automatic Stop" and "ME Reduce" that are connected directly from the safety
system to the respective illuminated indicator fields.

Failure monitoring
Operation of the N3000-SSP01 is monitored. Failure of the device is signalled in the system by
"Sensor failure" (SF). The device status is indicated by the status LED located below the
illuminated indicator fields. The status LED lights red in the case of failure or a break in the
kBus connection. It remains off when the 24 V power supply is not applied.

Dimming
The N3000-SSP01 can be connected to a device with a dimming function and adopt its dimmer
setting. If the device with the dimming function is equipped with a light sensor (such as the
N3000-DSP10 or -DSP20 display) the brightness level will be automatically adapted to the
ambient brightness.
