1. Write short notes on any two of the following :
(a) Concept of ‘Open Prison’.
(b) White Collar Crimes and sentencing for it.
(c) Definition and scope of Penology.
(d) Problems of undertrial prisoners.
2. What are the various theories of punishment ? According to you, which theory is the most
efficient one in a country like India ?
3. Explain the salient features of the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958. What is the judicial trend
in India towards probation ?
4. Discuss the constitutionality of capital punishment in India. Also, enlist the various offences for
which capital punishment is provided under IPC.
5. Give the classification of prisoners. What are the various rights of prisoners and duties of
custodial staff ?
6. Examine the concept of parole in the light of its nature, object and essentials of an ideal parole
system. What is the difference between parole and probation ?
7. Discuss the possible role of ‘fine’ as an alternative to imprisonment.
8. Write explanatory notes on :
(a) Prison reforms
(b) Sentencing for habitual offenders.
