Directions: This is a practice assignment so you know how to navigate the online health textbook, practice saving files
and typing on PDFs. Many of the assignments will be in a PDF format so it is important that you understand how to
navigate Acrobat Reader using your school-issued computer.

STEP ONE-Making Adobe Acrobat Reader DC the Default on Your Computer

On the lower left corner of your keyboard, click on the Windows Flag and scroll to Acrobat Reader DC. Click on
it to open up the application.

a. A window will appear that says “Make Adobe Acrobat Reader my default PDF application”, click Yes
b. Under Set Reader as Default, click Continue
c. A window will open up, click Change
d. Choose Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, Click Ok
e. Click Apply
f. Click Ok

STEP TWO-Downloading, Saving and Renaming Assignment Files

a. Download the assignment from Canvas through the weekly agenda (Week One-Thursday).
b. Rename the assignment “purplepanthers” and save it to your desktop. Be sure that you are not saving it
to the folder called downloads.
c. Close everything out and then reopen the assignment called “purplepanthers” from your desktop in
Acrobat Reader.
d. Important Note: You must download all PDFs and open them in Acrobat Reader for this to work. You
cannot write on a PDF while it is in a web browser like Google Chrome. If you try to save it after you have
completed the assignment, it will not save any of your work. This is why teachers get BLANK assignments.
Always, download the PDF and save it to your desktop under a different name before working on the
assignment.

STEP THREE-Navigating the Online Textbook

a. Open up the online health textbook in Canvas through ConnectED.

b. Go to Chapter 10, Lesson 2 and type in the six kinds of nutrients.

c. Now go to Chapter 2, Lesson 1 and type the definition of refusal skills in the textbox below. Remember
to click on the word, refusal skills, to get the definition.

d. Next, go to Chapter 12, Lesson 3 and find the F.I.T.T. formula. What does F.I.T.T. stand for?

STEP FOUR-Uploading the Assignment into Canvas

a. Hit save on the document and make sure that you saved it to the desktop.
b. Upload the “purplepanthers” assignment into Canvas.
c. Double check that the assignment you uploaded is not BLANK, by clicking on your submission.
d. Congratulations. You did it!

FINAL STEP-Setting Up the Tool Bar

a. Open up Acrobat Reader on your computer.

b. Up at the top click on VIEW-----TOOLS-----COMMENT-----OPEN
c. A tool bar will appear at the top.
d. All done.
