Briefly explain why infection control is necessary in dentistry.

It is undoubted that both patients and dental health care personnel could be exposed to pathogens.
Especially, the risk for dental health care personnel is extremely high, because they touch
saliva,blood and pus during dental treatment. Infection control is necessary because it interrupts the
infection route, hence protecting both patients and dental healthcare personnel from infectious
diseases. For example, sterilization and disinfection of hands and instruments could prevent cross
infection by hands of dental healthcare personnel among patients. By infection control, the quality,
outcome of dental treatment are increased, as well as the age of people.
