In the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam, Hoa people (also called Khách, Hán, Tàu) have the

population of around 800.000 people. Hoa people live mainly in Ho Chi Minh city and some
southern provinces such as Dong Nai and Soc Trang. The Hoa have the same origins as
Chinese, so their language belongs to China group. However, most of the Hoa people now
can use Vietnamese in daily communication, while their mother tongue can be used in family
conversation or in the Hoa community. About their culture, the Hoa have their own customs,
beliefs, and moral standards, which include special festivals in religious practices such as
Nguyên Tiêu festival, Đông Chí festival, vía Quan Công festival, vía bà Thiên Hậu
festival,ect; as well as some standards of behavior of the Hoa people in specicfic situations.
In addition, their food seems to have some similar features to Vietnamese food. For example,
they use boil pork or boil chicken for making noodle soup, or fried rice with traditional
Vietnamese ingredients,ect. Regardless of ethnicity, we are all Dragon and Fairy descendants
and have the responsibility to preserve and develop the national culture, homeland and
country.
