Definition

A therapeutic diet is a planned diet with modifications to normal diet which is used to supplement the
medical or surgical treatment and is prescribed by physician and planned by dietitician.

Objectives
1. To maintain good nutritional status
2. To correct the deficiencies which has occurred
3. To provide rest to the body or to the certain part of the body for the metabolism of nutrients.
4. To bring about changes in weight where ever necessary
5. Education of the patient regarding the need for adherence to prescribed diet.

 Regulate amount of food
 Assist body organs to maintain normal function
 Aid in digestion
 Improve specific health conditions
 Increase or decrease body weight
 Modify the intervals of feeding
