Written Analysis of Cases (WAC)

Title: The Case of Dr. ARCHIMEDES ROBLES, the Academic Vice President

I. Point of View:

As the Academic Vice President and a good leader of the University, Dr. Robles
accommodated and resolved the concern of the Faculty Members increasing their
salary since the dilemma started on 2012.

II. Statement of the Problem:

The university was faced with the problem of the demand from the faculty of salary
adjustments, which have been scaled since 2012.

III.Objectives:

1. To resolve the concern of the Faculty Members of the university


2. To increase the salary of the Faculty Members
3. To fight on behalf of the faculty members against the administration for their
salary adjustments

IV. Areas of Consideration:

1. The competence in work of the Faculty Members shall be evident when they are
paid accordingly

V. Alternative Courses of Action:

1. Dr. Robles is sympathetic to the demand of the faculty members.

Advantages:
1. Putting confidence and hope of the faculty members to increase their salary
2. Building trust to Dr. Robles as a leader

Disadvantages:
1. Other leaders in high position shall be intimidated and jealous
2. Dr. Robles was able to press the administration for their salary adjustments as
agreed upon in a meeting amongst him

Advantages:
1. Formal discussion through conference shall be used to effectively settle the
problem
2. Agreement is made and recorded and action shall be taken accordingly.

Disadvantages:
1. There would be disapproval of the request from the other point of view or
perspectives
2. There would be other factors affected when the request is granted.

VI. Decision: (select which of the alternatives is best)

Alternative Course of Action No. 2: Dr. Robles was able to press the administration for
their salary adjustments as agreed upon in a meeting amongst him

This Alternative Course of Action is better because it allows the other avenues to be
revealed and reflected for the next action to make. When proper communication
through formal gathering like Focused Group Discussion and/or Conferences is made
possible, the decision shall be widen up and explore other possible ways to address
the concern. The agreement after the meeting can be the basis of the action and it
is legal in its nature especially if specimens are indicated into it. And, it could not be
deviated and revoked by law.

VII. Plan of Action on the Decision:

As an employee in Department of Education, I saw the case as a common one to


the present times. This is also the concern of the DepEd employees especially the
teaching employees. My personal action of this is to being competent even if salary
increases or not. Being in the field of teaching, I already figured out my situation that
my salary could only suffice my daily expenses – Including my parents’ needs – but not
make me a millionaire someday. On the other hand, salary increase can be the
motivation of the DepEd employees to perform better in their job. My point of view is, it
is a job and expected to be paid (by the government). However, when things are
considered to be more than a job which is so-called ‘Ministry’, salary shall not be the
primary consideration. Ministry as termed by those DepEd employees whose passion in
teaching is very much evident everyday. I firmly believe that I am one of those DepEd
employees who has the heart to serve beyond salary.
