CARDBOARD BOTTOM
SEALING MACHINES

OVERVIEW On the cardboard bottom sealing machine, filled or unfilled com-

posite cans are sealed and closed with a bottom made of compo-
site paper or cardboard by means of a heat contact process.
Both round and non-round formats can be processed.

DESIGN • modular system which can be easily adapted to different

operations and output speeds
• turret principle – sealing processes and protracted sealing
times independent of the cycle time

BENEFITS QUICK FORMAT CHANGE

easy change to other can formats
• fully automatic height adjustment without change parts
• very good access to the tooling area
• short changeover time for pre-set sealing heads with quick
change mechanism
• low maintenance thanks to top-quality components
pre-set
long operating times and trouble free production garanteed by sealing head
• cam driven robust active parts
• isolation of the tooling and the guidance using high quality
thermo-resistant polymeric material

PROCESS MONITORING CONTROL

permanent monitoring of all machine parameters
• separate heat control of inner stamp and outer ring of the
sealing tool
quality check (optional):
• no sealing operation when can or bottom is missing
= avoidance of contamination
• overheat protection during sealing process
• automatic pneumatic ejection system for faulty cans
• integrated camera / vision inspection

SAFETY • according to machinery directive 2006/42/EC inspection unit

STANDARDS • tranparent machine cover with safety switch on doors

CARDBOARD BOTTOM
SEALING MACHINES

FUNCTION • fully automatic, continuously operating closing machine

• sealing composite bottoms / lids onto composite cans

FEEDING OF CAN BODIES

• feeding the filled cans or unfilled can bodies to the machine
on a horizontal conveyor belt (optional)
• separating the cans by means of a driven stop star and acce-
leration of the cans by means of an infeed worm
• transfer of the cans to the sealing stations by an infeed star
wheel

FEEDING OF COMPOSITE BOTTOMS

• inserting the prefabricated composite bottoms
– into the bottom magazine or
– onto a (optional) long stacking conveyor for long charging
cycles
• gentle extraction of the composite bottom from one or more
magazines by means of vacuum
• transfer of the composite bottom to the sealing turret

HEAT-SEALING PROCESS
• exact positioning of the composite bottoms in each sealing
station by a form ring
• calibration of the can bodies while positioning them in the
working station – correction of slight deformations of the can
body
• controlled lifting of the bottom and can body into the sealing
tool after merging
• heat-sealing of composite bottom with can body
– by inner and outer heated sealing tools
– utilizing robust and easy-to-use heat contact technology
– with adjustable and monitored temperature cardboard bottom
– long sealing times (up to 1.65 s) thanks to turret principle sealing tool
