Student Survey

Tallwood Elementary School, 5th grade

1. I distributed one survey to my homeroom students. My homeroom has 20 students.

2. There are 18 completed surveys out of the 20 it was given to.

3. 90% of the students in my homeroom completed the survey.

4. The grade level that this survey was given to was 5th grade, I distributed this survey

during morning meeting

5. This survey was given to the students first thing in the morning after morning

announcements. It also was given the day after the students had to fill out several other

surveys for the school counselor.

6.

a. Based on the data collected from this survey, the students concluded that I always

do well in showing them respect and them knowing what the rules are in the

classroom, these are the two questions I got a unanimous “always” answer for.

The data also concludes I am strong in the following sections, knowing a lot about

what is being taught, being prepared and ready each day for the lesson, allowing

the students to show their learning in variety of ways, allowing the students to ask

questions, listening well to the students, and finally navigating technology as it

relates to learning/lessons. I also included a short answer question for the students

to write in what they thought a strength of mine was, the majority of students said

teaching in general, other answers were either specific to math or a general

“everything” statement.
b. Based on the data collected from this survey, the students concluded that a few of

my weaknesses include, them being able to do the work I assign them, letting

their parents know how they are doing in school, and assigning books and

learning materials that include people of different cultures. I also included a short

answer question for the students to write in what they thought I could improve on,

the majority of the students put down a general “nothing” statement. However one

student said “stuttering” and another said “not being so anxious”.

c. I can use this information for continuous professional growth by being intentional

to put an emphasis on my weaknesses in order that I may grow in them.

Specifically to this survey, this would look like me as the teacher implementing

more tiered work to allow for the struggling students to have work more on their

level, communicating with the students parents more, and using literature to cross

through the curriculum that also includes people of different cultures. In regard to

what the students identified as my strengths I can use this information for my

professional growth by continuing to do what I have been that way I don’t

develop any of them as a potential weakness later on in my career.
