Short Story Poster Project

Due: Wednesday April 19th.

Throughout the course of our short story unit, we covered three different texts:
“The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury
“Harrison Bergeron” by Kurt Vonnegut
“There WIll Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury

Assignment:
To wrap up our short story unit, we will be creating a poster for one of the three short
stories. This poster will be a creative final project, giving you the ability to represent your
understanding of what we have learnt about short stories.

For this poster you will have three options to choose from to create:
● A propaganda poster
● A Character poster
● A movie poster

These will be described in detail on the next page.

Write Up:
In addition to your poster, you will provide a half page write up about your poster. This is
where you will explain the purpose of your poster. How it relates to the short story, what
parts of the short story are included and the meaning behind your poster.
This short write up is mandatory.

Gallery Walk:
On April 19th, we will be conducting a gallery walk with our posters. This gallery walk is
mandatory as you will be provided an additional piece of the final project that day, a
response paper that you will use to record your learning from your peers projects.

A gallery walk is when we share our projects with the class in a non-presentation
format. We will alter the room to create a space where our projects can be easily viewed
by everyone, we will take time to look at and investigate our peers' projects, using the
response sheets to guide our learning.
Posters Explained
Propaganda Poster:
Create a propaganda poster for one of the short stories. You can choose to
represent the part of the story that is seen as perfect and this propaganda is the
“advertisement for it.” Such as the goal to be equal or how Harrison is trying to become
emperor in “Harrison Bergeron” or the Nursery in “The Veldt.”
Alternatively, you can use this propaganda poster to be against something in the stories,
to push the story's narrative, such as how in “Harrison Bergeron,” Harrison is perceived
to be an evil, dangerous teenage boy who must be stopped.
You must include:
● Include / create at least two images (you may have more)
● Use at least two quotes from the story (you may use more)
● Have at least two elements that explain the purpose of the propaganda poster
(you may include more if you wish)

Character Poster:
You will choose one character from one story, and create a poster explaining this
character. As we discussed in class, characters can be more than just the humans
found in the story, this leaves you with many options of who or what to choose.
You must include:
● An explanation of the character using at least two elements from the short story
(you may use more than two elements if you want)
● Provide / create at least two images of the character (you may use more)
● Use at least two quotes from the character or at least two quotes for the
representation of the character (you may use more)

Movie Poster:
Create a movie poster for the short story as if the story was being created into a
film. This choice gives you plenty of options as to what to do.
You must include:
● At least two images (you may have more)
● Use at least two quotes from the short story (you may include more)
● Use at least two elements from the story that explain the short story within
the movie poster (you may use more if you want)

(Elements can include: Setting, Plot, Conflict, Resolution, Point of View, Theme)
