DEFINITION
 Engineering Drawing is the graphical
representation of physical objects and
their inter-relationships.
 A method of communication used in all
branches of technical industry.
 A language of accurate description of
physical objects where verbal (word)
language is very inadequate.
DEFINITION (cont’d)
 Whenever machines and structures
are designed, described and built,
engineering representation is
necessary.
 Think of a building, crane, bridge,
milling machine etc; they have to be
drawn first before they can be made.
 Therefore the application of
Engineering Drawing is inevitable.
AIM OF THE COURSE
 To study this Engineering drawing
language so as to be able to “write” it,
express it to people familiar to it, and read
it readily when written by others.
 Important that every engineering
student learns and develops the ability
to make and read drawings.
 Do not attempt to become technically
illiterate by ignoring or avoiding drawing.
