II. Read the following passage and decide whether the following statements are true (T) or false (F).
Most of today’s music is a mixture of styles from various countries and periods. Many types of music have their
origins in older traditional songs being heard throughout the world. Because music may reveal a lot about various
cultures through its lyrics, melodies, and instruments used, researchers and music lovers consider music to be a
crucial part of history. They are worried that traditional and older genres of music are slowly vanishing, partly
because they are less likely to be written down or recorded. The other reason is that the format in which they are
recorded is not in use any more. Additionally, such music may not be very appealing to younger generations, so
when older generations pass away, the music may disappear.
There is a growing effort to preserve music in its many forms. To record live performances, some researchers
make field recordings that are made outside of a recording studio. Researchers also transcribe old music by
listening to old recordings. They make an effort to write out the music so that modern musicians can learn and
play it.
Collecting music is a different method of music preservation. Some collectors are willing to spend a lot of time and
money looking for things that have not been produced or sold for many years. Nowadays, it is much simpler to
preserve music thanks to current technologies. We can record music by our smartphones, and the Internet enables
us to share those recordings and find people with similar interests.
