Dr Sharity Nelson

9/28/2023 A Brochures genre’s

“Forging the Future”, a brochure booklet created by the admissions team at Texas State

University, used by the admissions teams, other staff members and the student community. The

community uses the booklet to increase the number of students attending Texas State University

by sending it across the United States to supply students attending high school or in the process

of graduating who find it, with information and testimonies about the campus and all that it has

to offer using genres such as separated sub sections, providing info about scholarships and

finance aid, the curriculum and admissions, as well as quotes from staff and the rest of the

community in order to accomplish their increasing their admissions rate.

The Texas State University has separated sections and made sub sections using a

combination of pages, brackets, and sizes of bold text so that it’s as smooth as possible to be able

to understand to fare better attracting new students. Each page of the brochure has a major focus

of its own which then breaks down into subcategories with brackets and enlarged bold title text

sectioning them off from each other making it easier to navigate to find specific information.

Many of the brackets have a color of their own and other keys within themselves. The keys

mentioned just a little bit ago are paired next to some of the text to show which programs have

additional programs, courses and or degrees. One of the keys being a half-shaded bubble

representing which majors have upper-level courses also available at Texas States Round Rock

Campus. Other than the brackets and pages there’s also the sizes and fonts of the text. Within the

brackets the text for the titles of each section is bold and enlarged so much so it’s impossible not

to notice the difference. With these key separations and guides those interested in attending this

college can find what they need in this brochure with much ease to increase the likely hood of

students choosing Texas State University.

The admission team provides information on scholarships and financial aid in order to help

increase the turnout of potential students and new students attending the campus. Assured

scholarships are awarded automatically to students who ranked in the top 35% of their

graduating class or completing the IB Diploma or AP Capstone Diploma, and meeting sat/act

score minimums. Specific qualifications can be found on our website. TXST is conducting

holistic reviews of students without sat or act scores for possible merit scholarship awards,

(admissions@txstate.edu ). This information supports my point by explaining criteria’s that one

must be in to be qualified for grants and the varied type of scholarships and informing new or

possible incoming students about Texas State University community guidelines.

The Texas State University community uses a section in the brochure booklet to insert a

quote from an employe at the campus to increase the student body by convincing potential

students to attend the college through describing the campus and what it has to offer them. The

admissions team bolds and capitalizes the sub heading of that quote to help separate it from other

text on that page “CAMPUS AND VIRTUSL TOURS- We have two vibrant campuses-one in

San Marcos, one in Round Rock- and a variety of ways for you to discover each through in-

person or digital experiences. Both our campuses are filled with opportunities to engage in life

changing learning, creative energy, and community spirit. (admissions@txstate.edu).” The quote

uses specific phrases and words like, in life changing learning, creative energy and community

spirit, that can have a very persuasive stigma, to convince people to attend the college while also

using enlarged bold sub heading to stand out which supports my point by trying to convince

those who read the quote.

The Texas State University community illustrates the curriculum and admissions to inform

college applicants which credentials they will need to apply and have a strong chance of being

accepted as well as other procedures using brackets and bold text to help understand the steps

and other information. Admissions team of Texas State University states the recommended

curriculum, English 1, 11, 111, and IV then proceeds to list all the others such as math, science,

social, foreign language, fine arts, physical education and more. Assured admissions are also

listed, the top 10% rank sat and act with no minimum scores, along with 1 st quartile through the

4th quartile requiring act and sat scores. Program specific requirements are programs that require

their own entry requirements to be met, along with general admissions to enter. Finally, one of

the most important and first steps for getting into college, the actual application. It’s stated that

the 1st step is to complete the freshman application. The 2 nd step, which is optional, is to submit

an essay based on the prompts that are provided on the applications. The 3 rd step is sending high

school transcripts or Ged certificate. The 4th step is to submit the fee of 75 dollars. The 5 th step,

send official college transcripts, if applicable. For the final 6th step, send sat/act scores. If

anyone applying has trouble, there’s a website that can guide applicants how to do so,

admissions.txstate.edu/apply. This information provided by the community supports my point by

providing information to students who are interested in attending a college and presenting them

with an appealing option.

In conclusion Forging The Future brochure booklet is a physical text; sent across the united

states to increased students attending Texas State University, and provide them with information

to help them attend, and succeed at college.
