Theoretical Framework

This study is anchored from the theoretical support of Social Learning Theory by

Albert Bandura (1977). The social learning theory of Bandura emphasizes the importance

of observing and modeling the behaviors, attitudes, and emotional reactions of others.

Bandura (1977) states: “Learning would be exceedingly laborious, not to mention

hazardous, if people had to rely solely on the effects of their own actions to inform them

what to do. Fortunately, most human behavior is learned observationally through

modeling: from observing others one forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed,

and on later occasions this coded information serves as a guide for action.” (p22). Social

learning theory explains human behavior in terms of continuous reciprocal interaction

between cognitive, behavioral, an environmental influences. The component processes

underlying observational learning are: (1) Attention, including modeled events

(distinctiveness, affective valence, complexity, prevalence, functional value) and

observer characteristics (sensory capacities, arousal level, perceptual set, past

reinforcement), (2) Retention, including symbolic coding, cognitive organization,

symbolic rehearsal, motor rehearsal), (3) Motor Reproduction, including physical

capabilities, self-observation of reproduction, accuracy of feedback, and (4) Motivation,

including external, vicarious and self reinforcement. Social learning theory has been

applied extensively to the understanding of aggression (Bandura, 1973) and

psychological disorders, particularly in the context of behavior modification (Bandura,

1969).

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to understand how students in Grade 11 at Southville 1 Integrated

National

High School are doing on how to improve their English Speaking Skill.

Specifically, it also seeks to answer the following:

1.What is the respondent's profile in terms of:

1.1.Sex

1.2.Age

1.3.Strand

2. Is there a significance with the ability to express information verbally?

3. What action plan/intervention/enhancement program can be proposed to?

Scope and Delimitation

This research study will be conducted exclusively at Southville 1 Integrated National

High

School, focusing on Grade-11 students. The study will focus specifically on Grade-11

students' English speaking skills improvement. The research will primarily employ

quantitative research methods, including surveys and statistical analysis, to assess

students'

English speaking skills and related factors. The study will collect data on participants

demographics, including sex, age, and strand (if applicable), to provide a comprehensive

overview of the student population being studied. The study will propose action plans,

interventions, or enhancement programs specifically aimed at improving English

speaking

skills among Grade-11 students at Southville 1 Integrated National High School. The

research will be conducted within a specified time frame, and the effectiveness of
proposed

interventions may not be assessed over an extended period. We will concentrate solely on

English speaking skills, this study will involve a limited number of Grade-11 students

from Southville 1 Integrated National High School, and the findings may not be

generalized to a larger population. While the study will collect data on sex, age, and
strand

(if applicable), it may not delve deeply into other demographic or socio-economic factors

that could influence English speaking skills. The research will be conducted within the

constraints of available resources, including time and funding, which may limit the depth

and breadth of the study.

Significance of the Study

The results of this study are beneficial to the following:

Students. This study will be helpful to students understanding the effective components

in speaking English fluently.

Teachers. The teachers will gain benefits from this by understanding the factors that may

affect the students learning.

Parents. The parents will gain benefits from this study by acknowledging the factors that

may influence their children.

The Researchers. This study can serve as a start and a new foundation of knowledge.

Future Researchers. Future researchers may opt to research on a similar case, and this

present study can help facilitate in their quest of knowledge. In addition, this study might

be their source/basis on conducting same study in the future.
