Field Trip Report on the Visit to a Self-Study


Center University Malaya

Students at University Tun Hussein Onn, Malaysia.

Introduction

UTHM students went on a field trip to the Royal Handicraft & Art Village. This field trip was
held on 5 October 2023. The purpose of the field trip was to learn about traditional crafts and
culture. At the Royal Handicraft & Art Village visitors can learn about traditional Malay
culture. The village is home to several skilled artisans who practice a variety of crafts that
famous likes batik printing, wood carving, silver-smithing, and basket weaving.

Field Observation

The arrival time at the Royal Handicraft & Art Village was 9:00 a.m. When we arrived at the
Royal Handicraft & Art Village, we been greeted by the craft center guide. Then, the guide
explains to us the history of the traditional crafts and the significance to the culture. After that,
we watch live craft demonstrations by the artisans in various crafts such as batik printing, wood
carving, silver-smithing, and basket weaving.

At 11:00 a.m. we start to try some of the traditional crafts by guide of the artisans. On the afternoon we
take our lunch and watch the cultural performances that provide by the Royal Handicraft & Art
Village. After finished watching the performance we got some time to visit the souvenir shop
to buy some souvenirs for ourselves and family. Before we went back to UTHM, we had a
brief Q&A session and the host presented goodie bags.
Conclusion

The field trip to the Royal Handicraft & Art Village was a wonderful experience and we learned
a lot about traditional crafts and culture. We had a lot of fun trying our hand at some of the
crafts ourselves likes on how to print a batik. We would all highly recommend this do a field
trip to this place again.
