INTRODUCTION
The proliferation of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles in the daily basis has led to a
monumental surge in plastic waste. However, the potential inherent in these discarded bottles
remains untapped. This project seeks to harness this potential by implementing an innovative
recycling process at DLSU-D, transforming PET bottles into high-quality, eco-friendly 3D printing
filament.
The intersection of sustainability, technology, and academia forms the crux of our proposal.
By establishing a dedicated facility equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and employing
advanced recycling techniques, DLSU-D aims to create a closed-loop system. This system will not
only reduce the environmental burden posed by plastic waste but also provide a sustainable source
of raw material for the burgeoning field of 3D printing.
3
PROBLEM
The continuous growth in the production and consumption of plastic products, particularly
single-use plastic bottles, has caused environmental degradation and resource depletion. The
World Bank Organization (2021) revealed that the Philippines generates an alarming 2.7 million
tons of plastic waste yearly. De La Salle University-Dasmariñas is actively engaged in making
sustainable policies within the University, conducting studies to institutionalize efforts for
environmental protection and conservation.

to lay the groundwork for subsequent actions. Transitioning seamlessly into the Recycling Unit
Setup and Optimization phase, we detail the procurement and installation of a cutting-edge
recycling machine, meticulous adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and an
unwavering commitment to quality through continuous improvement measures.
The culmination of our efforts unfolds in the Full-scale Production and Evaluation phase,
where the recycling unit reaches its peak operational capacity, generating 3D printing filament
from recycled PET bottles. This phase is marked by a rigorous evaluation of the project's impact
on waste reduction, environmental sustainability, and economic viability. Stakeholder feedback
becomes instrumental in refining the recycling process, while simultaneously providing a platform
for future planning and expansion. Through this comprehensive approach, our project not only
addresses the immediate need for sustainable waste management but also aspires to set a precedent
for effective recycling initiatives with the potential for broader adoption.
To further visualize our solution plan, here is an outline of the 3-Phase Solution Plan:

-Integrate the recycled filaments into the school's 3D printing labs for trial runs and
initial use.
QUALIFICATION
Workforce:
• Assemble a team consisting of both staff and students to oversee the setup and
management of the on-campus collection system.
• Provide comprehensive training for staff or volunteers involved in collecting and
managing PET bottles.
Training Plan:
• Conduct guidance sessions for volunteers/staff involved in sorting and managing
collected PET bottles.
• Offer hands-on training sessions on the proper use of the recycling machines.

COSTING
The allocated budget of PHP 50,000 for this project is strategically divided into three distinct
categories, each serving a vital role in the successful implementation and sustainability of our
initiative.
This portion of the budget, amounting to PHP 10,000, is dedicated to the creation and
dissemination of comprehensive marketing and promotional materials. These include the
development and production of informative posters, a detailed campaign program, and other
miscellaneous promotional expenses aimed at raising awareness among students, staff, and the
broader community. The effectiveness of the awareness campaign is pivotal in ensuring active
participation and support for the recycling initiative.
The largest allocation, totaling PHP 25,000, is earmarked for crucial equipment and infrastructure.
This substantial portion of the budget covers the acquisition of the filament manufacturing
machine, an integral component of our recycling process. Additionally, funds are allocated for the
purchase of safety gear to ensure the well-being of our team members, recycling bins for efficient
waste collection, and testing equipment to guarantee the quality and safety of the recycled
materials. This investment in equipment and infrastructure is foundational to the seamless
operation of the recycling unit, ensuring its efficiency and adherence to safety standards.
The remaining PHP 15,000 is designated for ongoing maintenance to uphold the operational
efficiency of the recycling unit. This includes regular checks, repairs, and the replenishment of
consumables as needed. Furthermore, this portion of the budget serves as a contingency for
potential expansion initiatives, allowing for scalability based on the project's success. Additionally,
these funds can be utilized to acquire any unforeseen materials or resources that may be required
as the project progresses, providing flexibility and adaptability to evolving needs.
8
By meticulously allocating our budget across these categories, we aim to maximize the impact of
our project while ensuring a sustainable and well-supported approach to PET bottle waste
management on our campus.
