Let's explore experimental learning in industrial
psychology using a hypothetical case history,
diagnosis, tests used, and intervention plans.
Case History:
Meet John, a 32-year-old employee at a Manufacturing
company. He has been experiencing decreased job satisfaction
and productivity. John's supervisor has noticed a decline in his
performance and reports of conflicts with coworkers.
Diagnosis:
Upon initial assessment, it appears that John may be
experiencing burnout and a lack of motivation. His decreased
job satisfaction and conflicts with coworkers suggest potential
issues with workplace engagement and interpersonal
relationships.
Tests Used:
Job Satisfaction Survey: Administer a job satisfaction survey
to assess John's level of satisfaction with his current role and
workplace environment. This can help identify specific areas of
dissatisfaction.

Motivation Assessment: Use motivational assessment tools to

understand John's intrinsic and extrinsic motivation factors. This
can reveal whether his motivation has decreased.
Conflict Resolution Inventory: Utilize a conflict resolution
sinventory to assess John's conflict resolution skills and identify
any areas where he may need improvement.

Intervention Plans:
Job Redesign: Based on the results of the job satisfaction
survey, consider redesigning John's role or providing
opportunities for skill development and growth. This can
reignite his interest in his work.

Motivation Enhancement: Use the results of the

motivation assessment to tailor motivational strategies. This
might involve setting clear goals, providing rewards, or
recognizing his achievements.
Conflict Resolution Training: If the conflict
resolution inventory highlights deficiencies in this area, provide
John with training in conflict resolution techniques and
communication skills to improve his relationships with
coworkers.
Mentoring and Support: Assign a mentor or coach to
John to provide guidance and emotional support. This can help
him navigate workplace challenges and boost his confidence.
Regular Feedback: Implement regular feedback sessions
to monitor John's progress and make adjustments to the
intervention plans as needed. This can ensure that he stays
engaged and motivated over time.
