As we all know in this time cellphones play an important role in
communication between people. Our need for and reliance on phones has grown
exponentially, we work, shop, communicate, and learn via our phones. Phones
market is very large and has been growing since the creation of the first phone.
But the growth spurt was from the 2000s with the development of mobile
phones.

Motorola developed the first portable cell phone in 1973. The hand-held
device was shaped like a brick and weighed around 2.4 pounds. It was called the
DynaTAC 8000X. The very first mobile device wasn’t cheap. The cost of the
DynaTAC phone was $3,995, which is equivalent to $10,000 in today’s money.
But we will analyze the market of phones from the 2000s to 2020. And discuss
the factors that affect demand and supplies in the phones market.

In the 2000s, phones are developed to be with cameras, FM radio, Bluetooth,

and mb3. Up to a billion people worldwide used phones for gaming, internet,
and texting as well as talking. This mean the demand at that time was increased,
and Supplies were few. This led to higher prices. The phone with the above
features at that time cost $500, which was a huge number.

In the mid-2000s, Apple made history when the iPhone. Nobody knew that
this line of smartphones would become the most popular worldwide. But since
the original iPhone was way ahead of its time, it became insanely popular. In
just a year, over six million iPhones were sold, at just under $600 apiece, so it
was an undeniable success.

However, the iPhone wasn't the only smartphone people bought at this time.
They bought Samsung, HTC, and Sony. The supplies were increased, which
means the quantity was increased and the prices were decreased. Which led to
an increase in the demand. Everybody at that time had phones except a few
people who had issues with their income.
By 2011, smartphones were commonplace, with many manufacturers
releasing new models annually. This is still the case up to this day, though many
improvements have been made in screen size and resolution, battery life,
connectivity, and software. In addition, Premium smartphones broke through
the 1200$ barrier a while ago, and there’s no sign of the prices coming back
down. But there are models on the market to suit every budget, like Samsung
Galaxy A10 costing less than 150$, and the iPhone SE offers great value at
429$. So, this means the demand of buyers increasing overall. Due to many
reasons. But the main reason is that there are phones for all types of people and
every standard.

There are some factors that affect demand and supplies, such as price,
income, and preferences. Price is the major variable that affects the demand for
every commodity. If the price increases the demand will decrease. Income is
also a major variable that affects the demand for every commodity. When the
income of any consumer increases so he consumes more than normally. So, if
the income of a normal person increases, he demands a new smartphone.
In addition to the factor of preferences, companies "suppliers" make phones
according to consumer preferences. Some consumers demand phones for work,
social media, good cameras, or just gaming. So, the demand of consumers
depends on if the company provides the phone with the preferences he needs or
not.
So, we can conclude that, as technology has become more advanced, it is
impossible to monopolize a market for a long period. As a market breaks down
from a monopoly into different market structures, The pricing of a product, the
income, and the preferences of buyers is the key to obtaining more market
shares.
