Was it a waste?

Was it all in vain?

Or just a dreamy phase?
Love was once my air,
Now it feels like a case.

Something I cherished,
Placed above all else.
Athletics defined me,
My soul’s strengthening pulse.

Memories, once sweet,

Now lost like wasted energy.
As I gaze at the track,
I query, will I come back,
It’s the question that's constantly with me.

Talent eclipsed all else,

It was my singular drive.
Only when released did I understand its depth.
My heart shattered the day talent took its leave.

All the camping,

Joy unbridled.
Never knew talent could be so crucial,
Something unspoken, almost like a ritual.

The 400m track lap,

Revisit every gap.
But thoughts of money invade,
My talent stranded, waylaid.

My heart aches now,

The call has grown louder.
Soon my mind will race,
For quitting isn’t in my nature.
