PERSONAL EULOGY
Sorrow fills our hearts during this sad moment, a sorrow that is deep and
personal. She has silently closed the door of life and departed from us. Our lives wil be
empty in the areas that she had brightened for us. She and I are very very close and
bonded a long long time, but I guess the length of time is not the confirmation of how
well you really knew a person but it is with the spark of friendship.
As we gather here today to celebrate the life of our dear friend, family, and
relative, let us remember the laughter, love and joy she brought into our lives. May our
memories with her continue to inspire and uplift us as we navigate this world without
her. I can say that you have been a good person, a comrade, and a friend to me, we
have shared a lot of moments in school and wherever we go but we both know that
they were all worth it. I just hope that you live longer, I think we should stick in our
mind now that our lives on earth are just temporary and we all have our own coming. I
also hope that you had lived your life your life the way you wanted and enjoyed your
time in the world. Based on our Daily Encounters, I can say that you really did. You will
always be remembered to be a friendly, a warm person, joyful, and always has the
heart to share what you have, what you know, and your time to help those who are in
need.
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is defined as the actual or threatened abuse by a current or
former domesticpartner. The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and/or
financial. It is used interchangeably with terms such as intimate partner violence and
family violence, which coversviolence experienced between familial relations and
kinships.
While general practitioners are more likely to see the chronic and insidious side
of domestic violence, practitioners in emergency and hospital settings are more likely to
treat acute trauma andmore severe injuries. Surgeons and Trainees, especially those
specialising in August 2019 | 1 August 2019 | 2 trauma, general surgery, otolaryngology
head and neck, orthopaedics, vascular, obstetrics and gynaecology and neurosurgery,
plastic and reconstructive, oral and maxillofacial, and dentists are best placed to assess
the patient’s risk of serious harm to life. They therefore are a key bridge between a
victim whose life is at risk and support services such as police, legal authorities and the
social support system. It takes significant courage for victims to disclose and seek
support from their predicament. Victims often find it easier to seek help from medical
practitioners due to the relationship of trust, compared to others such as the police.
While there are varied opinions on universal screening for domestic violence or targeted
screening of at-risk groups in healthcare settings, the treating practitioner should be
extra vigilant when assessing a patient with injuries that may have been inflicted from
domestic abuse. Treating practitioners should be sensitive that from a victim’s point of
view, any disclosure made has to be balanced against the risk of further threat to their
safety and the safety of any children, if their perpetrator found out about such a
disclosure. This may happen even if disclosure starts a cascade of system action that,
though well intentioned, in the end fails to adequately protect the victim and their
children.
