ISO 14001
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
What is ISO 14001?
• ISO 14001 is an internationally agreed standard that sets out the
requirements for an environmental management system.
• It helps organizations improve their environmental performance through
more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste, gaining a competitive
advantage and the trust of stakeholders.
What is an environmental management system?
• An environmental management system helps organizations identify,
manage, monitor and control their environmental issues in a holistic
manner.
ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY
We at Idealpoly Plastic Industries Sdn. Bhd., manufacturer of premium reprocessed resin, will strive to
create a clean environment in all our activities, products and services by committing to:
1. Conserve natural resources through Reuse, Recycle & Reduce
2. Prevent pollution through Effective Control measures
3. Comply with all applicable compliance obligations
4. Use this policy as the framework for setting and reviewing environmental objectives and
targets
5. Work towards continual improvements in our environmental performance and
periodically review our environmental management system
6. Communicate the policy to all interested people
We expect the commitment of every member of Idealpoly Plastic Industries Sdn. Bhd. along with external
providers to fulfil the environmental responsibility and requirements of their jobs at all times.
Objective
• To achieve ISO14001:2015 certification
• To conserve use of natural resources (water & electricity)
• To reduce generation of non-recyclable waste
• ISO 14001 provides a framework and a structured approach to
handling waste. During identification and evaluation of environmental
aspects, you will determine what wastes are emerging in your
processes, and with operational controls you will define how the
waste will be treated.
• Businesses routinely use hazardous materials that, when improperly
handled, pose a threat to human health and the environment. These
materials are found in everyday items such as fluorescent lamps,
electronic devices, and certain batteries, as well as in substances like
oil and solvents.
WHAT ARE SCHEDULED WASTES?
• Groups of wastes generated by the industrial and services sectors
which are legislatively categorized and listed in the local
environmental law; The Malaysian Environmental Quality Act, 1971
under Environmental Quality (Scheduled Wastes) Regulations 2005
• Categorized in 5 groups
➢ SW 1: Metal and metal bearing wastes
➢ SW 2: Inorganics, may contain metals and organics materials
➢ SW 3: Organics, may contain metals and inorganics
➢ SW 4: Either organic or inorganic
➢ SW 5: Other wastes - residues
WHAT ARE SCHEDULED WASTES?
Examples

SW 1 SW 2 SW 3

• SW 101 Waste containing • SW 202 Waste catalysts • SW 301 Spent organic acids
arsenic or its compound • SW 203 Immobilized schedule with pH less or equal to 2
• SW 102 Waste of lead acid wastes including chemically which are corrosive or
batteries in whole or crushed fixed, encapsulated, solidified hazardous
form or stabilized sludges • SW 302 Flux waste containing
• SW 103 Waste of batteries • SW 204 Sludges containing mixture of organic acids,
containing cadmium and one or several metals solvents or compounds of
nickel or mercury or lithium including chromium, copper, ammonium chloride
nickel, zinc, lead, cadmium, • SW 303 Adhesive or glue
aluminium, tin, vanadium and waste containing organic
beryllium solvents excluding solid
polymeric materials
WHAT ARE SCHEDULED WASTES?
Examples

SW 4 SW 5

• SW 409 Disposed containers, • SW 501 Any residues from

bags or equipment treatment or recovery of
contaminated with chemicals, scheduled wastes
pesticides, mineral oil or
scheduled wastes
• SW 410 Rags, plastics, papers or
filters contaminated with
scheduled wastes
WHY NEED PROPER MANAGEMENT?
• Scheduled wastes are potentially harmful. Normal handling (storage,
packaging, and transport) and the subsequent disposal methods, that
normally be used for non-hazardous industrial wastes (typically land
filling), are usually not appropriate, because scheduled wastes
present potential risks:
✓to human health
✓to the environment
✓of accidents
• If they are stored on-site without necessary precautions or dumped
• illegally they may also present long term risks to the environment.
• The components of cradle to grave of the schedule waste
management are:
• i. Waste generator;
• ii. Waste contractor/transporter; and
• iii.Waste treatment and disposal facilities.
