Lesson 1

Grip

Introduce the Grip & backhand push.


Quality of Movement
To be able to demonstrate & use the correct grip and understand the ready position. To be able to
accurately replicate a basic backhand push shot.
Understanding Movement
To understand the basic scoring and rules of double game play. To begin to outwit opponents with the
movement of the ball.
Taking Part & Leading
You will show focus and concentration to master the fundamentals of each shot (grip and stance), not
rushing ahead to games.

Lesson 2
Serve

Quality of Movement
To perform and replicate a legal table tennis serve with control and accuracy. Higher level performers will
develop fluency in a choice of serves.
Understanding Movement
To develop the skill of outwitting an opponent using a combination of shots and justify shot selection.
To understand the scoring and rotation needed for doubles games.
Taking Part and Leading
work as part of a team to successfully follow rules in doubles. Hold effective discussions about spin and
shot selection.
Healthy Bodies
Give examples of reaction time, agility and coordination in TT.
Lesson 3
Forehand

Quality of Movement
To be able to outwit opponents using a forehand push/drive with topspin.
Understanding Movement
To describe and understand the effect of topspin on the balls flight. To understand the
importance of movement and ball placement in order to win points. To begin to develop
strategic and tactical play during a rally.
Taking Part and Leading
Keep your practice specific, working on playing to your partners forehand and analyzing bat
position.
Healthy Bodies
Give examples of how power, balance and speed are used in TT.
Lesson 4
Backhand
Quality of Movement
To be able to outwit opponents using a backhand push/drive with topspin. At a higher level, students will
be able to apply backspin too.

Understanding Movement
To describe and understand the effect of topspin (and backspin) on the balls flight. To understand the
importance of movement and ball placement in order to win points. To begin to develop strategic and
tactical play during a rally.

Taking Part and Leading


Demonstrate teamwork and collaborative learning, comparing technique and discussing outcome of spin.

Healthy Bodies
Students can recall all components of Skill Related Fitness and give examples
Lesson 5
Tactics

Understanding Movement
To develop their understanding and knowledge of basic outwitting strategies. To understand
and develop the use of spin and shot selection. To refine tactics based on opponents
weaknesses. To understand how peers may improve quality of shot replication. To be able to
assess & evaluate own performance and weaknesses.

Quality of Movement
Show ability to utilize a number of shots and apply tactics with a low number of unforced
errors.
Lesson 6
Assessment

Revisit the assessment criteria from the start of the unit.

Discuss examples of each grade.

Perform your best and work with feedback during the lesson.
