I. Preporting purposes.
1.1. Purpose.
Check the bearing capacity steel of the factory structure, make conclusions and
recommendation when installing the solar PV system and Load of solar PV is 0.138 kN/m2.
1.2. Factory status.
Factory is new, it wasn’t effected by chemistry or corrison.
1.3. Attachment.
As-built Drawing of factory Yes
Design Calculations report Yes

4
II. Conclusions and Recommendations.
1.1. Conclusions.
Base on the calculation the steel frame for installing the solar system, we have
conclusions:

AREA
NO. BUILDING MAIN FRAME PURLIN NOTE
(M2)

1 B01 5,570 Safe Safe

2 B03 1,858 Safe Safe
3 B04 3,715 Safe Safe
4 B05 6,950 Safe Safe
5 B06 5,570 Safe Safe
6 B07 4,645 Safe Safe
Total 28,308 Safe Safe
The checked steel main frame and purlins can bear the load when adding solar rooftop
system (Solar load: 0.138 kN/m2).

1.2. Recommendations.
- Install evenly on both sides of the roof.
- The clear space between the panels and the roof surfaces is 610mm or less.

- When constructing and installing the solar system, the number of workers in each area
of 100 square meters (5x20 or 10x10,….) does not exceed 30 people. So, the roof live load :
Lr :30x65/100 =0.2 KN/m2 (on average , each worker weight 65 kg).

5
III. Input information.
3.1. Applicable Design Codes.
The Pre-engineered Building described in these calculations was design according to the latest
Buildings and Design Codes that have been referred to in the design:

 ASCE/SEI 7-05 : Minimum Design Loads For Buildings and Other Structures.
 IBC-2018 : International Buildings Code.
 MBMA 2012 : Metal Building Systems Manual.
 AISC 360-05 : Specification for Structural Steel Building.
 AISI 2001 : Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural
Member.
 AWS 2015 : American Welding Society.
 Relevant current regulation.

6
3.2. Material Specifications.
The following is the list of the material standards and specifications for which the
building components have been designed:

Material Specifications
Stt.
Materials Specifications Minimum Strength
No.
1 Built-up (Plates) ASTM A-572 Grade 50 (Or Equi) Fy = 34.5 kN/cm2
2 Shape Steel I,U,V JIS G3101-SS400 (Or Equi) Fy = 24.5 kN/cm2
3 Shape Steel [], O JIS G3101-SS400 (Or Equi) Fy = 24.5 kN/cm2
NSDC570/NSDH540/K18(Or
4 Purlin Fy = 45.0 kN/cm2
Equi)
5 Anchor Bolt of Footing JIS G3101-SS400(Or Equi) Fu = 40 kN/cm2
Connection Bolt of Ft=30.3 kN/cm2
6 ASTM A325 Type 1(Or Equi)
Rafter Fu = 72-83 kN/cm2
Connection Bolt of Ft=13.8 kN/cm2
7 DIN 6921-Grade 4.6 (Or Equi)
Purlin Fu = 41 kN/cm2
8 Cable Bracing EN12385 (Or Equi) Fu = 157 kN/cm2
9 Weld

Where :
Fy : Yeilding strength.
Fu : Tension strength.

7
3.3. Design Assumptions.
 The main frame rafters and columns are rigidly connected to each other using
pin type connection.
 The lateral stability of the building is provided through the frame action of the
main frames.
 The longitudinal stability of the building is provided through truss action of
cross braced bays of the building.
 Both end walls are P & B frame rafter & column.
 The roof purlins are continuous beams supported at rigid frame locations and
span is the bay spacing of the building.
 The roof sheeting and wall sheeting (by others) & sag angle provides lateral
support for purlin & girt.

8
3.4. Design load.
* Dead load.
-Dead load include :
- Self weight of mainframe, roof metal sheeting and purlin.
- Collateral load.
- Solar load is calculated in case install full PV panel on roof is 13.8 kg/m2
“Theo ASCE 7-16 / According to ASCE 7-16 :
Solar Panels : The weight of solar panels, their support system and ballast shall
be considered as dead load.”
* Roof live load.

- Roof live load : 0.3 kN/m2

- According to IBC-2021 :
“1607.14.4.1 Roof live load. Roof structures that support photovoltaic panel systems
shall be designed to resist each of the following conditions:
Case 1.Applicable uniform and concentrated roof loads with the photovoltaic
panel system dead load.
Exception : Roof live loads need not be applied to the area covered by
photovoltaic panels where the clear space between the panels and the roof
surfaces is 610mm or less.
Case 2. Applicable uniform and concentrated roof loads without the photovoltaic
panel system present.”
Therefore, the roof live load when installing the rooftop solar panel is determined in
practice according to the following typical diagram:
=> The number of workers in each area of 100 square meters (5×20 or 10×10, …) does
not exceed 30 people. So, the live roof load is: 30×0.65/100 = 0.2 kN/m2 (on average, each
worker weighs 65 kg), but to check the actual bearing capacity of the steel main frame, start from
Lr=0.2 kN/m2 and gradually decrease Lr=0.15 kN/m2 ”

* Wind load.
- Velocity pressure qz evaluated at height z above ground shall be calculated by the
following equation :

qz  0.613k z k zt kdV 2 I N / m 2  (6-15)
Where :
qz : Velocity pressure at height z.

9
kz : Velocity pressure exposure coefficient ( Table 6-3, ASCE 7-05).
kzt: Topographic factor (Figure 6-4 , ASCE 7-05 ).
kd : Wind directionality factor(Table E.6-1, ASCE 7-05).
I : Important factor(Table E.6-1, ASCE 7-05).
V : Basic wind speed (m/s)
- Wind pressures for the MWFRS of buildings of all heights shall be determined by the
following equation :
p  qGC p  qi  GC pi  (6-18)
Where :
q=qz : qz for windward walls evaluated at height z above theground.
q=qh : qh for leeward walls, sidewalls, and roofs evaluated at height h.
qi=qh : for negative internal pressure.
qi=qz : for positive internal pressure.
G : Gust-effect factor.G=0.85
