PURPOSE

The purpose of the adhesive rulers is to position the sheets of cardboard in a

straight way, at the right place. There a two different layouts:

One sheet in the middle (four rulers)

1 (for 2100 x 1600 mm plates)

Two OR one sheet (nine rulers)

2 (for 2900 x 1700 mm plates)

BEFORE GETTING STARTED

Here’s what you need before getting started:

Degreasing agent (and a piece of cloth)

Tapeline

(White) pencil

Painters tape

Squeegee (delivered with the rulers)

MEASURING

• For the four-ruler layout:

Follow these steps to measure the exact middle and the position of the rulers.

Use the pencil and tapeline to determine the middle of the short
1a 1b side. Add and subtract exactly 25 cm and mark that position. Do it
also on the other short side.
Repeat this for the long side.
2a 2b

Attaching the rulers will be explained in the next chapter.

• For the nine-ruler layout:

This is a little bit harder to do. Keep in mind that the has to be ONE ruler in the
exact middle, and the other two (4a and 5a) HAVE to be exactly 160 cm apart.

Measure the middle on the long side and add and subtract exactly
3a 3b 2,5 cm (the rulers width is 5 cm) and mark that position. Do it also
on the other side
Now it’s important to keep the distance from middle to middle ex-
4a 4b actly 160 cm.
Add and subtract exactly 25 cm and mark that position. Do it also
5a 5b on the other side.

Determine the middle of the short side. Add and subtract exactly
6a 6b 25 cm and mark that position. Do it also on the other short side.

Attaching the rulers will be explained in the next chapter.

ATTACHING THE RULERS

Follow these steps one by one to make sure the ruler is mounted straight.

Degrease the surface with the degreasing agent

and a piece of cloth. Make sure you don’t erase
the pencilmarkings.
This looks like a small detail, but it’s an important
step. Degreasing the surface will enhance adhe-
sive ability of the rulers and it’s lifespan.

Place the rulers on the markings and secure them

with a piece of tape at the beginning and at the
end.

Use the painters tape to seal the ruler on to the

surface. Chose one side and tape it all the way,
from beginning to end. Mount the tape half on the
surface, and half on the ruler.

Rub the tape with your finger, so it won’t come of.

Flip the ruler with the tape as pivot, so the back-

ing paper is visible.

Rulers

Remove the backing paper from the entire ruler

Flip the ruler back to it’s original position. If done

right, it will float a little above the surface.

Now use the delivered squeegee to press the

sticker to the surface.

Start in the middle (at the zero) and rub repeat-

edly from the tape to the end of the ruler. Do this
until every part is pressed. Now remove the tape.

Ready! Now repeat these steps with all the rulers, until you get the previously ex-
plained pattern.
