IAR Item 2 Industrial Attachment First Week-Induction Week Checklist
NB: The student will need to keep a copy of this checklist in the IAR and give one copy to the Practice
Assessor/Work-Based Supervisor during the Induction Week.
The purpose of this is for the student and supervisors or managers to meet to discuss the learning
opportunities available for the student and how the industry will be able to provide support for
those learning opportunities. It will also be an opportunity for the industry to decide whether the
student will be suitable to work there. Students should treat this week important and make sure
they prepare beforehand and also ask questions for answers.
There are a number of areas you, the student, need to ask questions for clear answers to meet
your needs. Take certain items/documents to this week’s meetings;
Diary
Details of any extra learning needs/ disabilities you have. NB: If you are aware of this
information and choose not to disclose this we cannot guarantee that this will be taken
into account at a later stage.
Details of Industrial Attachment dates and timetables, so that you can be clear with the
supervisor about which days you will be at the Industrial Attachment.
Finally, here are some suggestions of areas that you may want to ask about, in order to get a
picture of the industry and learning opportunities available. You are also likely to have other
specific questions to add so it is important to give this some thought beforehand and prepare your
questions.
Can you tell me about the industry and what sort of work you do here?
What learning opportunities can the service offer?
Will there be the chance for joint work with colleagues/ those from other agencies?
Will I have access to training, particularly in relation to tasks the industry expects of me
(e.g. using a computer package to record information)?
Can I have his/her details to complete a confirmation of industries acceptance form for
monitoring by KsTU staff?
