INSTRUCTIONS FOR STUDENTS

1. Industrial Attachment is a mandatory training progamme for all KsTU students. It is


monitored, assessed, defended and scored. Students must submit Industrial Attachment
Report (IAR) two weeks when university reopens. The hard copy of IAR must be submitted
to the department. A soft PDF copy must be uploaded online through the student portal.
All Industrial Attachment items in the Toolkit must be completed and Included in the
Industrial Attachment Report. Original stamped copy of the Industries Assessment Form
must be submitted to KsTU-ILO.

2. Students cannot graduate if they do not complete the Industrial Attachment Training.
Programme. This toolkit is designed to assist the students to plan their Industrial
Attachment Training Programme and keep accurate record of work done during the
training period.

3. The students must complete their own personal statement form to plan well for the
training and show to all parties involved in the training. Students must keep accurate
records of daily activities to enable them to complete IAR and submit it on time.

4. Students should ensure that their timesheets and work records are signed weekly by their
Industry-Based Supervisors and counter sign by the academic supervisors.

5. During the first week students should go through the induction week and use the check
list to guide them to ask questions in industries, and also complete the google form that
will be sent to confirm industries for monitoring by the academic supervisors of the
University.

6. Students should follow rules of both the university and industry during the Industrial
Attachment Training period.

7. They should ensure that they communicate any change of circumstance to the Work-based
supervisors, KsTU-ILO, department, faculty Coordinators and academic supervisors. All
students should follow reporting procedure for any illness. Update your records on the
google form for monitoring if you change your phone number so you can be monitored.
INDUSTRY -BASED SUPERVISORS

1. The Industry- Based Supervisors should ensure that the students adheres to the rules and
regulations of the industry/organisation.

2. They should check students’ personal statement forms to be able to assist and guide them
appropriately during the training period.

3. Work-Based Supervisors should sign weekly timesheets and work records for students and
also complete Industries Assessment form for the students or posted to the address stated
on the form.

4. No students should be granted leave of absence to travel out of the country without the
approval of the university

5. Any advanced or loan granted to trainees is at the organizations risk.

6. written permission is required from a student to stay away from work

ACADEMIC SUPERVISORS
1. Academic Supervisors should ensure that the students allocated to him or her are well
monitored throughout the training period. They should liaise with students and Work-
Based Supervisors and complete all required monitoring.

2. They should check students’ personal statement form to be able to assist and guide them
appropriately during the training period.

3. They should sign weekly timesheets and work records forms for the students.

to your Practice Assessor/Academic Supervisor and the industry/ Work-Based Supervisor for them

IAR Item 2 Industrial Attachment First Week-Induction Week Checklist

NB: The student will need to keep a copy of this checklist in the IAR and give one copy to the Practice
Assessor/Work-Based Supervisor during the Induction Week.

The purpose of this is for the student and supervisors or managers to meet to discuss the learning
opportunities available for the student and how the industry will be able to provide support for
those learning opportunities. It will also be an opportunity for the industry to decide whether the
student will be suitable to work there. Students should treat this week important and make sure
they prepare beforehand and also ask questions for answers.

Please take this first week very serious.

There are a number of areas you, the student, need to ask questions for clear answers to meet
your needs. Take certain items/documents to this week’s meetings;

Details of any extra learning needs/ disabilities you have. NB: If you are aware of this
information and choose not to disclose this we cannot guarantee that this will be taken
into account at a later stage.

A copy of your student’s insurance cover certificate.

Your Industrial Attachment application letter, personal statement, details of your


learning needs and any documentation relating to extra/ additional learning needs.

Details of Industrial Attachment dates and timetables, so that you can be clear with the
supervisor about which days you will be at the Industrial Attachment.

Finally, here are some suggestions of areas that you may want to ask about, in order to get a
picture of the industry and learning opportunities available. You are also likely to have other
specific questions to add so it is important to give this some thought beforehand and prepare your
questions.

 Can you tell me about the industry and what sort of work you do here?
 What learning opportunities can the service offer?

 Can you tell me something about the service you provide?

 What sort of work would I do here?

 Will there be the chance for joint work with colleagues/ those from other agencies?

 What will be my work schedule?

 What is the make-up of the team?

 What are the working hours?

 What are the industry expectations about dress code?

 What are the industry expectations about recording/confidentiality etc.?

 Will I have access to a computer, if any?

 Will I have access to training, particularly in relation to tasks the industry expects of me
(e.g. using a computer package to record information)?

 What are the health and safety checks here?

 Who will supervise me?

 Can I have his/her details to complete a confirmation of industries acceptance form for
monitoring by KsTU staff?
IAR Item 3

WEEKLY TIMESHEET
It is the responsibility of the Student to complete the details on this form and ensure that it is signed by both Work-
Based Supervisor and Practice Assessor/Academic Supervisor. It must be included in the completed Industrial
Attachment report (IAR). Industrial Attachment is about twelve-week (12 Weeks). Where the industry operates shift
system, student should arrange with supervisors on the suitable option. For the six months Industrial Attachment
students should print more timesheets.
