Experiment No 8 Field Visualization For Electromagnetic Wave Propagation in Parallel Plane Wave Guide Using HFSS.
Aim: Field visualization for electromagnetic wave propagation in parallel plane wave guide using
HFSS.
Objective of Experiment: To visualize the wave propagation in parallel plane wave guides using
software
Theory: A parallel wave guide is formed by two infinite parallel conducting planes. The
electromagnetic energy is confined between the planes and moves in a direction parallel to the
planes. The electromagnetic waves which can exists between the parallel planes can be of three
types.
Transverse Electric Fields
Transverse Magnetic Fields
Transverse Electromagnetic Fields
For Transverse Electric Field, the electric field is perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation.
That is to say that the electric field does not have any component in the direction of wave
propagation.
For Transverse Magnetic Field, the magnetic field is transverse to the direction of wave propagation.
That is to say that the electric field does not have any component in the direction of wave
propagation.
For Transverse Electromagnetic Fields, the electric and magnetic fields both do not have a
component in the direction of wave propagation.
Observation Task:
CASE 1 :
Observe Electric Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Only Incident Field)
Observe Electric Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Refracted Field)
Observe Electric Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Total Field) and Animate It
CASE 2 :
Observe Magnetic Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Only Incident Field)
Observe Magnetic Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Refracted Field)
Observe Magnetic Field (Vector / Magnitude) (Total Field) and Animate It
CASE 3:
Result: I have successfully animate the Field visualization for electromagnetic wave propagation in
parallel plane wave guide using HFSS.
Conclusion: maximum electric field vector attains a value of 2.09 while the minimum reaches 0.005
indicates a significant dynamic range in the field strength for TEM1 mode. And for TE1 mode maximum
electric field vector attains a value of 1.294 while the minimum reaches 0.006.
