Individual Assignment- Changing Demographics in
Canada
Answer:
Introduction and Personal Views
According to me, changing demographics in Canada will have a significant impact on
media planning and buying. Two of the most significant changes are the aging
population and the increasing diversity of the Canadian population.

My personal opinion pines upon the fact that the aging population will have a
significant impact on media planning and buying. As the population ages, there will
be a greater demand for products and services that cater to the elderly. This will
require advertisers to shift their focus to more traditional media channels such as
television, radio, and print, as these channels are more effective at reaching older
audiences. For example, brands such as LIFEALERT and AARP have been successful
in targeting older audiences through television commercials.

Thesis statement and breakdown of views

I feel that the increasing diversity of the Canadian population will also have a
significant impact on media planning and buying. As the population becomes more
diverse, advertisers will need to create campaigns that are more inclusive and
representative of different cultures and ethnicities. This will require advertisers to shift
their focus to digital media channels such as social media, as these channels are more
effective at reaching younger and more diverse audiences. Many companies will have
to change their strategy, as the Demographic changes, such as the COVID-19
pandemic's decrease in birth rates in Canada, may impact brands selling baby
products, cereals, and fast-food chains. Businesses and advertisers must stay updated
with demographic trends and adjust their strategies, accordingly, considering factors
like location, industry, and target audience. For example, brands such as Coca-Cola
and Nike have been successful in creating inclusive campaigns that appeal to diverse
audiences. Demographic changes necessitate diverse representation in media
campaigns, impacting messaging.

Conclusion
To conclude my views, the aging population and increasing diversity of the Canadian
population will have a significant impact on media planning and buying. Advertisers
will need to adapt their strategies to cater to these changes in demographics by
shifting their focus to traditional or digital media channels depending on their target
audience. I would highly regard Demographic changes impacting media planning vary
based on location, industry, and target audience. Businesses and advertisers must stay
updated on trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
