President let us look back at the people who held the office. (1899-Present)
In 1899 Emilio Aguinaldo took the Oath of office in
The Church of Barasoain. He was president for 2 years and 59 days. We did not have an election for 34 years because of the Philippine-American war. But when the 1935 Philippine Constitution was ratified, they held an election in that year. Manuel Quezon (1935-1944) was the first president of the commonwealth, he won a second term on 1940, but he later fled the country on 1941 because of WWII he died in Washington DC on August 1, 1944. Manuel Quezon was succeeded by Sergio Osmena, Osmena was the 2 nd president of the commonwealth, He lost to Manuel Roxas in 1946. Manuel Roxas is the 3rd and last president of the commonwealth his term was cut short because he died of a heart attack on April 15,1948. He was succeeded by Elpidio Quirino he lost to Ramon Magsaysay in 1953. Ramon Magsaysay was the 7th president of the Philippines, he died of a plane accident in 1957. Carlos P. Garcia was the 8 th president of Philippines he succeeded Ramon Magsaysay and he lost to Diosdado Macapagal in 1961. Diosdado Macapagal was the 9th president of the Philippines he lost to Ferdinand Marcos in 1965. Ferdinand Marcos Sr. was the first and last dictator of the Philippines he was the one who started the Martial Law that killed thousands of people and activists he also jailed his rivals which includes: Benigno Aquino Jr., Jovito Salonga, Jose Diokno, and many more. But when the uprising in Edsa happened Marcos was ousted in office on February 25, 1986, after almost 21 years in office, he fled to Hawaii where he spent his final years. Corazon Aquino is the widow of murdered Sen. Benigno S. Aquino she is also the main leader of the opposition and first woman to hold the office of president not just in the Philippines nut the whole continent of Asia. Fidel Ramos the 12th president of the Philippines he recently died this year of Covid 19. Joseph Estrada was the first president to be impeached, after he refused to leave the office of president Edsa people power 2 happened his VP Gloria Macapagal arroyo succeeded him. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was the 14 th president, her administration was overshadowed with the Hello Garci scandal which led to her conviction on 2010. Benigno (Noynoy) Aquino III was the son of Cory Aquino and was the 15th president. Rodrigo Duterte was the 16th president he started the war on drugs which killed thousands of people.
