2023 GROVE CITY COLLEGE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

DAILY LESSON PLAN FORMAT

(Hannah, Callie, Lydia/English/11-29-23)

I. TOPIC:
Topic: Web Topic, Who, What, When, Where, Why, How
The goal of the lesson is that the students will be able to identify the web topic, the who,
the what, the when, the where, the why, and the how in a story and get good scores on
the formative assessment.

II. OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:
Standard: CC.1.2.2.B
Objective: The students will be able to answer the questions of who, what, when, where,
why, and how from a text and identify key details from the text, 75% of the time. They
will answer these questions using the Gimkit formative assessment at the end of the
lesson.

III. TEACHING PROCEDURES:

1) Introduction (Anticipatory Set) - Focus student attention on the lesson
To get the students started on this lesson, first we will ask the class if anyone knows
anything about the who, what, when, where, why, and how in a story. We will call on
students to share their answers and get them involved in a group discussion to give
some background before starting.
2) Development - input procedures such as modeling, describing, giving
examples, checking for understanding, etc.
Once the students have some background knowledge, we will then move on to playing
a reading video of Curious George Wash Your Hands. The students will follow along
with the story as it is read to them by the video. We will also remind them to look for the
who, what, when, where, why, and how as the video plays. Together, we will pull out the
who, what, when, where, why, and how.
3) Guided and Independent Practice/Assessment
After listening to the video together, we will play the video one more time. This time we
will not pull out the who, what, when, where, why, and how with them during the video,
but have them get with a partner and do it with them. Listening to the text a second time
will help them understand it better and be more focused on finding the objective. Being
able to identify the objective with only the help of their partner will also help them
understand it better.
4) Closure - Draw attention to the end of the lesson by consolidating and
After the students have reviewed the video again and practiced answering the question
the students will continue to practice by playing a Gimkit based off the book and a
review of how to answer the questions Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. This
will help the students to reinforce their learning. The students will play the game for ten
minutes and after they have finished the game, they will then move on to take the
formative assessment.

(optional)
 Canva Presentation
 Gimkit
 Curious George YouTube read aloud video
 Google Form Assessment
 A Chromebook for each student

V. ADAPTATIONS/PLAN MODIFICATIONS:
Students with special needs will have the opportunity to listen to the video reading from
another classroom, with less students and more focus on them. Students with special
needs can also have extra support from the teacher when trying to identify the lesson
objectives, and work on the part of the lesson that requires a partner with an adult.

VI. EVALUATION:
Formative: Google Form

VII. REFLECTION:
1. Write an assessment of the students’ performance and mastery in terms of
each stated objective.
The students were able to answer the questions of who, what, when, where, why,
and how from a text and identify key details from the text, 75% of the time.
2. Write a general self-evaluation including explanation for success or lack of
it. Discuss what changes might have produced better results and could be
used in subsequent lessons?
Overall, we believe that our lesson plan was successful in getting our students to
understand the curriculum because they got high scores on the Gimkit game and
high scores on the google form formative assessment. To get better results in the
future, we could try adding another interactive game to our lesson plan, so the
students get even more practice. We could also try reading the story aloud
ourselves if our students lose focus during the video reading.
