Doubler Units
This software does not support HiGain ETSI T1 or OEM products (LTU-811, NTU-811, LTU-814,
NTU-814, UTU-814, HOM-ETSI, and HOM-1168).
In Point-to-Multipoint mode, loopbacks can now be executed simultaneously from the NTU1 and NTU2
interfaces toward the network.
Bug Fixes
2 December 22, 1999 HDSL Unit Software Release Notes Version 3.26
190-800-132-01, Revision 01
The following issues still exist. It is our intention to correct these in future releases.
COMPATIBILITY
HDSL unit software Version 3.26 is compatible with any previous software release that is Version 2.0 or greater.
An HDSL unit running Version 3.26 will not communicate properly with another HDSL unit running an earlier
version of software. No unit in the HDSL circuit can be running a version prior to Version 2.0 for the system to
operate as designed.
Upgrade Method
You can easily upgrade HDSL unit software in the field through use of the HDSL unit’s flash memory. All you
need is a PC running the PairGain Special Download Program, Version 2.00 or higher. With the PC connected to
the LTU (the local HDSL unit), both the LTU and the NTU (the remote HDSL unit) may be upgraded. During the
upgrade process the customer traffic is interrupted. To upgrade systems in the field running V1.13 software, the
sequence listed below must be carefully followed to avoid sending a technician to the site of the remote unit.
Please see the Technical Support section of your HDSL unit Technical Practice for information on retrieving the
Version 3.26 code from the PairGain Web site at http://www.pairgain.com. Also included on the PairGain Web
site is information on how to obtain and use the PairGain Special Download Program.
1 Upgrade the remote unit (approximate download time is 5 minutes). The remote unit in the circuit must be
upgraded first. If the local is upgraded first, you will not be able to upgrade the remote via the HDSL link
because the two ends will not be able to communicate.
2 Upgrade the local unit (approximate download time is 45 seconds).
HDSL Unit Software Release Notes Version 3.26 December 22, 1999 3
190-800-132-01, Revision 01
Both units reestablish communication automatically after the upgrade. You may be required to
reconfigure the user options.
HDSL cards may be used in an EMS-83x Management Shelf with an EMU-830 Management Unit. The
Management Unit software must be Version 2.00 or later to properly manage HDSL cards running Version 3.26
software. However, Version 3.10 or greater EMU software is required to manage features that are part of HDSL
software Version 3.26 (PTM and doublers). The older Version 1.1 EMU software will not communicate with
HDSL cards running Version 3.26 software (or any HDSL software which is Version 2.00 or greater).
The HDSL unit software described in this release note is not the software used in the EMU-830
Management Unit (even though the Version number for each may be the same).
Version 3.26 software may be loaded onto all HDSL units with Revision Number R00 or later (also called a
Configuration Number). However, certain current and older revisions of HDSL units do not support all the
features of Version 3.26.
• LTU-801 and UTU-801 HDSL units must be either part number 150-1420-01/31 (LTU/UTU), Revision R20
or later, or part number 150-1420-01A/31A (LTU/UTU) to support PTM at the LTU end of the circuit.
• LTU-804 and UTU-804 HDSL units must be part number 150-1420-04A/34A (LTU/UTU) to support PTM
at the LTU end of the circuit.
• LTU/UTU/xTU-8x2/8x4 HDSL units must be part number 150-1420-0xA to support the programmable data
port feature. This feature allows the Nx64k serial data port to be configured as V.35, V.36, X.21, or RS-530.
COMPLIANCE
The use of Version 3.26 software will not change the safety or EMC characteristics of any of the units listed in
Table 1.
