EXERCISE 3. Cellognost Mononucleosis

Student’s Name CASADO, Justin Rene P. Sec MT3A Group 3 Date 02/22/21
PURPOSE:
To detect Heterophile antibodies specific for Infectious Mononucleosis in a serum
sample.

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Draw the results of the Test and the Controls.
2. Read and interpret the result of the serum sample assigned to the group.
3. Fill up the table provided.

RESULT AND OBSERVATION:

Test Positive Negative

Controls
Reading: Positive (+)

Interpretation: IM Heterophile Ab/ IM anti-horse are present

Table A: Cellognost Mononucleosis

What serves as the agglutinin? Serum Sample (IM heterophile
antibodies/IM anti-horse)
Give the time of incubation. 3 minutes
Give the temperature of incubation. Room Temperature
What is the agglutinogen? Mononucleosis Rgt. (Acid-treated Horse
Erythrocytes)

Table B: Which of the 3 Heterophile antibodies is/are described in the following?

Detected in GPK-absorbed serum IM antibodies
Produces high titer in BE-absorbed serum. Forssman antibodies
May be absent in GPK-absorbed serum. Forssman antibodies and Serum sickness
antibodies
Stronger agglutination on the R Spot. (Spot Test) Forssman antibodies

CONCLUSION:
Rapid tests for detecting diseases are now a must in our modern times, as the influx of patients are always on
the rise every day. The Cellognost Mononucleosis test is an excellent example of a rapid test that has a
relatively high rate of efficiency. While being quicker and more convenient, it is also more specific than other
tests for IM, owing to its prevention of interferences from other heterophile Abs, specifying agglutination only
for IM Abs.
