Guidelines : GAS DETECTION BASELINE VALUE FOR OPERATIONAL SYSTEM AT OPEN ATMOSPHERE SPACE.
Scope of Work :
• Prior to perform any opening, replacement parts/accessories e.g., line breaking, filters, strainers etc.
in the open atmosphere space which the running system may have high concentration of hazardous
substance.
• Safe gas measurement to be conducted, monitored and shall be within permissible exposure limit
(PEL) for concentration of substance in the air accordance to Time Weighted Average (TWA) 8 hours.
• Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) : The AGT role as critical position to perform initial Gas Checking on the
open system and ensuring safe working atmospheres, in particular: by interpret the reading of
detected gases, prior to execute job in safe condition.
• Hierarchy of Safety Control Measure for Personal Protective Equipment will be applied depending
hazardous substance present such as but not limited to : Respiratory protection, ventilation system
and or breathing apparatus upon risk assessment conducted.
• Upper explosive limit (UEL): the highest concentration of gas or vapor which will burn or explode if ignited.
• Following International Standard : Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), TPSK
Requirements for opening any system parts/accessories shall be below 10% LEL without any spark
generated or ignition source.
% by Volume (CH4) VS % by LEL Range
• Bump test and or calibration is required when the following is observe / appear :
• Blinking Green indicator light will pop-up if your gas detector is in good working condition and it ready to
use.
