SAYING A SONG:

ANG BAYAN KO
The lyrics in the first stanza or the first group of 4 lines of the song Ang Bayan
Ko describe the Filipinos’ love and adoration for their country. It can be clearly
seen ay the song describes the Philippines as the land of gold and flowers
which are both precious and beautiful. The second stanza describes the
country’s beauty led to its suffering as it invited the greed of foreign countries.
It also describes how much pain the Filipinos felt when the Philippines were
enslaved and exploited by foreign countries and the guilt of failing to defend
their country. I think that we as Filipinos have the right to be mad at the
foreign countries that invaded and exploited our country and fellow Filipinos.
In the third and fifth stanzas, the desire of Filipinos to be free is backed by the
lyrics ‘’Bayan pa kayang sakdal-dilag. Ang 'di magnasang makaalpas”. We
know that repetition is usually used to emphasize something and in the song,
it is used to emphasize the Filipinos’ desire to gain freedom. Desiring freedom
after so many years of exploitation is a natural and valid emotion feel. We also
need to remember that this song was originally created during the American
occupation and popularized during the EDSA revolution because our country
is under the dictatorship of Marcos' administration. The fourth and sixth
stanzas are also the same which clearly indicates how strongly we feel about
seeing our country free. In these two stanzas, there is an implied action being
done to get the freedom we deserve. The Philippines and Filipinos have a long
history of being enslaved and exploited by foreign countries and at one point
by our fellow Filipino during Marcos Sr.’s Administration.
SAYING A SONG:
ANG BAYAN KO
The song Ang Bayan ko is full of patriotic emotions and thoughts. This song
was used as a form of protest to gain the freedom that we Filipinos have
desired for so long. This song also implied that we are done dreaming about
the country’s freedom and are ready to do whatever it takes to finally be free.
The way this song was used in the EDSA revolution led me to believe that the
word “dayuhan” refers to anyone who harms our country even though
they're technically Filipino. Ang Bayan Ko truly captured the burning and
intense emotion that Filipinos felt as they were fighting for their freedom.
