POSITION DESCRIPTION
PURPOSE OF ROLE
Part of the lead management team; the purpose of the role is to ensure that the
organisation can rely on its equipment and site facilities for efficient product manufacturing,
packing and storage, and for staff welfare, health and safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set-up and calibration of existing and new production equipment to meet product specifications
• Development and maintenance of appropriate cleaning and maintenance schedules including
the management of contract cleaners
• Maintenance and repair (when necessary) of production equipment including management of
spare parts
• Process and production improvement
• Advice and recommendations on the acquisition of new capital equipment
• Maintenance of ancillary services such as power and water supply
• Oversee building and site maintenance through appropriate use of contractors including site
security and fire alarms
• Part of Quality Assurance and Compliance team
• Training of staff in correct use of equipment
• Operating equipment of on-site retail outlet
• Staff facilities are enhanced and maintained in good working order
• Management and acquisition of on-site tools
• Tool tidy
• Staff facilities – ensure sufficient coats, hair nets etc
• Cleaning products are sufficiently stocked
• On-going waste management/collection

SKILLS
• Technical knowledge: A solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
is crucial. You should be able to troubleshoot and repair machinery, equipment, and facilities
in a food production environment.
• Equipment maintenance: Familiarity with the maintenance and repair of food processing
equipment such as conveyors, mixers, ovens, packaging machines, and refrigeration units is
essential.
• Safety protocols: Understanding and adherence to safety guidelines and regulations is vital
in a food factory to prevent accidents, contamination, and other hazards.
• Problem-solving skills: Ability to identify and resolve technical issues quickly and effectively
to minimize disruptions in the production process.
• Attention to detail: Food safety and hygiene are critical in a food factory. You must pay close
attention to cleanliness and sanitation to avoid contamination.
• Time management: Managing maintenance tasks efficiently and prioritizing critical issues to
minimize production downtime.
• Communication skills: Effective communication with supervisors, production staff, and other
team members to report issues, coordinate repairs, and update the status of maintenance
activities.
• Computer literacy: Familiarity with basic computer applications and software used for
maintenance tracking, work orders, and equipment monitoring.
• Troubleshooting skills: Ability to diagnose problems with machinery and equipment and
develop practical solutions.
• Physical fitness: The job may involve lifting heavy objects, climbing ladders, and working in
tight spaces, so physical fitness is necessary.
• Adaptability: Food production facilities can have changing needs and challenges. Being
adaptable and flexible is essential in such an environment.
• Teamwork: Collaborating with other maintenance personnel and production staff to ensure
a cohesive working environment.
