Edward Joseph Snowden

Edward Joseph Snowden ( Elizabeth City , Carolina of the North , 21 of June of 1983 [ 1 ] )
is a technology consultant American , informant , a former employee of the Central
Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the National Security Agency (NSA) .

He is believed to have fled Hong Kong , China , for Russia . He has asked Ecuador to grant him
asylum . [ 7 ] The US Department of Justice has classified Snowden's participation in the PRISM
surveillance program as a "criminal matter.

He has also requested political asylum to Spain, Venezuela, Bolivia or Cuba among a total of 21
countries. [9] On July 5, 2013, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, offered Snowden
humanitarian asylum, [10] but at the same time, the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, Daniel
Ortega, said in the Act of the 34th anniversary of the tactical withdrawal to Masaya, Nicaragua,
that it would be considered providing asylum to Snowden and claimed that Nicaragua had already
received the asylum request letter at its embassy in Moscow.

In June 2015, the Buenos Aires Herald newspaper, [76] reported on a meeting that took place on
April 18, 2015 between Snowden and the then president of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de
Kirchner, classifying it as Snowden's first meeting with a president. since the start of the scandal.
According to Snowden's lawyer, the meeting was extensive, although he did not give details of the
conversations. [77] [78] [79] Before ending her term, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner confirmed her
meeting with the former contractor of the NSA. [80]

The Justice Department, in a statement, alleges that Snowden, a former CIA employee and former
National Security Agency (NSA) analyst, violated “the express obligations” that he signed with the
United States Government by publishing the book “without having sent it to the two agencies for a
prior review ”. The suit further states that Snowden "violated his nondisclosure agreements" by
offering "talks on intelligence-related matters."
