To whom it may concern,

My name is Samantha Howard and I am a Dietetics Graduate Student at Montclair State

University. I received a Bachelor's degree of Science in May of 2023 and expect to Graduate
with my Masters in Nutrition and Food Science with a concentration in Dietetics in May 2024.
At Montclair, I also had the opportunity to be a part of the Universities Women’s Soccer Team
and a member of the Montclair State Dietetics Organization (MSDO).

I have gained working experience in the field of nutrition as I have made my way through my
studies. I worked at The Christian Healthcare Center where I began to see first hand what a
Registered Dietitian did on a daily basis in a clinical setting. I was exposed to unexpected
situations in which quick thinking and problem solving skills were needed. I learned the
importance of communicating with patients with understanding and compassion. I am currently a
Graduate Assistant for the Department of Nutrition and Food Studies at Montclair and have been
gaining a new/different perspective on other career paths that this profession allows. I am
constantly being challenged professionally to use my skills such as effective communication,
quick learning, and active listening to be successful.

Throughout my life I have played competitive soccer continuing to the collegiate level. The
experience of playing a collegiate sport teaches you the importance of many aspects of life
applicable off the field, arguably more than on the field. I was put into situations where I had to
be an unspoken leader, show resilience in the face of adversity, keep myself accountable, manage
my time, and I learned the power of teamwork. Learning how to be resilient was one of the
greatest lessons soccer brought to me. I had to quickly learn how to pick myself up when things
aren’t going my way, to take a step back and see the bigger picture and have confidence in
myself that I will make it to the other side. This has become a critical component in my
professional, academic, and personal success.

I have a natural instinct to act in high pressure situations. I work quickly and effectively,
adapting to whatever situation is presented to me. I love a collaborative environment and believe
working together is usually the best way to get the job done. I am excited to see what my future
career has in store for me!
