The Hertfordshire & Essex High School and Science College

Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 7 Tracking – Autumn 2023

I am very pleased to be sending you Krystal’s first tracking at Herts & Essex, which contains scores for Attitude to Learning and Behaviour as
well as any concerns highlighted by Krystal’s teachers.

There will be a further tracking later in the term, which will focus on Krystal’s academic progress. You will have the opportunity to discuss
how Krystal has settled into Year 7 at the Pastoral Review Day (PRD) on Tuesday, 31 October 2023.

Target Grades

GCSE Target Grades are currently being set for your child. These will be on Krystal’s next tracking which you will receive in December.
Target Grades in the more creative subjects such as Art, Drama, Design Technology, PE and Music will be set at the end of Year 7. Target
Grades are calculated using a range of data, including student’s KS2 results, CATs scores and Teacher Assessments to predict achievement
in GCSEs. As part of ensuring that every student at the school optimises their achievement, their progress is tracked against their Target
Grades. This allows us to produce a plan of action where a student is at risk of underachieving, and also to put in place positive “stretch and
challenge” interventions where students are exceeding their Target Grades. These grades will be reviewed again in Year 9 as GCSE options
are selected.

Attitude to Learning

A teacher would decide whether the student is:

 Well motivated
 Working effectively in the lesson – on task and engaged
 Actively contributing to the lesson.
 Completing homework on time and to the best of their ability
 Completing classwork on time and to the best of their ability
 Working with minimal support and guidance, showing maturity and independence in organising their own learning
 Demonstrating a resilient approach, embracing challenge and risk
 Responding positively to feedback
 Familiar with her targets and what the next steps are: constantly seeking to improve

 Working collaboratively and in co-operation with others
 Listening and following instructions promptly

 Not interrupting the flow of a lesson

Both will be ranked as follows:

The expectation is for the majority of students to achieve 3s and 4s.
