1 INTRODUCTION
Skill India is an initiative by the Government of India to empower the youth with
skills for employment. It aims to provide vocational training and enhance the
employability of the Indian workforce. It offers various skill development programs
in sectors like manufacturing, construction, healthcare, tourism, and more. The
goal is to create a skilled workforce that can contribute to the growth of the
country. It's a great initiative to bridge the gap between education and employment
opportunities.
Skill India is all about equipping people with the right skills to thrive in the
job market. It offers a wide range of training programs, both short-term and long-
term, to help individuals develop industry-relevant skills. These programs cover
various sectors like IT, healthcare, hospitality, construction, and more. Skill
India also focuses on entrepreneurship development, encouraging individuals to
start their own businesses. The initiative provides financial support, mentorship,
and guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs.
2 HISTORY
The Skill India initiative was launched by the Government of India on July 15,
2015. It was introduced to address the challenge of unemployment and provide skill
development opportunities to the youth of the country. The main objective is to
create a skilled workforce that meets the demands of various industries and
contributes to the economic growth of India. Skill India focuses on providing
vocational training, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurship development programs. It
has been a significant step towards empowering the youth and enhancing their
employability.
Skill India has its roots in the National Skill Development Policy that was
launched in 2009. This policy aimed to provide a framework for skill development
activities across the country. It recognized the importance of skill development in
reducing unemployment and promoting economic growth. Building upon this policy, the
Skill India initiative was launched in 2015 with a renewed focus on expanding the
reach and impact of skill development programs. Since then, Skill India has been
working tirelessly to train and empower millions of individuals, helping them
secure better livelihoods and contribute to the nation's progress.
