‭through‬ ‭its‬ ‭pores.‬ ‭The‬ ‭shell‬ ‭also‬ ‭has‬ ‭a‬ ‭thin‬ ‭external‬
‭subcaste‬ ‭called‬ ‭a‬ ‭grain‬ ‭or‬ ‭cuticle‬ ‭that‬‭helps‬‭keep‬‭bacteria‬
‭and dust out.‬
