1 Hardware Description
The VestasOnline® Business server hardware is based on a standard 19” rack
cabinet.
The 19” rack cabinet consists of these units:
• Server with monitor and keyboard
• Router – WAN communication unit for remote access
• LAN switch(s) communication unit for internal communication in rack
• Retractable drawer(s) with fibre switches for communication to wind turbine
fibre loop network
• RS 232 serial communication unit (VestasOnline® Business 60 only)
• UPS redundancy control unit (VestasOnline® Business 60 only)
• UPS unit(s) with surge protection
• Air cooling unit
The hardware and software specifications for units in this document are minimum
requirements and can be changed without further notice.
The main difference between the two configurations is that the VestasOnline®
Business 60 includes a tape backup system. In addition, it also has redundant
LAN switches and UPS system and consequently will be able to operate on
batteries for a longer time.

Depending on number of ordered fibre switches the VestasOnline® Business
server will be delivered with one or two drawers.

1.1 Server
The server hardware is based on a Hewlett-Packard industry server that is
designed for professional applications with focus on high availability and
reliability. The server is equipped with a flat-panel monitor and keyboard for
system administration purposes.
See section: “2 - Software Description” for further information about server
software.

2 Software Description
The VestasOnline® Business 40 and VestasOnline® Business 60 systems are
delivered with VestasOnline® Business server software installed and ready for
configuration.
Term Description
ADSL Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - a technology for
transmitting digital information at a high bandwidth on
existing phone lines to homes and businesses.
ISP Internet Service Provider - a company that provides access
to the Internet.
SCADA Supervision Control And Data Acquisition - the gathering of
data from remote locations in order to control equipment
and conditions.
SQL Standard Query Language - is a standard interactive and
programming language for getting information from and
updating a database.
UPS Uninterruptible Power Supply.
VPN Virtual Private Network - is a way to use the Internet to
provide secure access between to offices or locations.
