In what kind of industry environment (for example, embryonic, mature) does your
Company operate? Use information from Strategic Management Project: Module 2 to
answer this question.
In the analysis of the industrial environment done in module 2, Porter's Five Forces was
applied, and the result was that competition in the Peruvian beer industry is significantly
unfair because Backus is the company that owns the majority of the most consumed
brands, both national and international, and has an exceptional national reach, clearly
leaving its rivals with the smaller market segments, since the cost of creating a beer
company is high and attracting clients from this segment is difficult. Likewise, the changes
in the industry's macro environment were analyzed, in which the most relevant factor that
produced an impact on the beer industry was the COVID-19, since the consumer's
behavior that had a radical change due to several restrictions and prevention of contagion.
On the other hand, the strategic groups that belong to the industry in which Backus
operates were identified and it was found that Backus is the leader in sales and corporate
reputation, in addition it was found that the intensity of competition is given by these two
factors. Likewise, it was found that the industry's dynamism is focused on capturing the
consumer's attention and trying to manage sustainable ways of running its business.
Finally, it was determined that the life cycle of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage
industry is in a growth stage closer to maturity.
Based on this analysis, we can say that the type of industrial environment in which Backus
operates is a growth environment, since our company is in a strong competitive position
where companies need to invest in stock enhancement strategies to attract the customers
of weak companies that go out of the market.
