let’s begin!
THE BASE
We will be crocheting the beanie flat and then putting it together with in a tube at the
end. I don’t explicitly say where to change colours as I find that’s what makes this beanie
so unique, is having your own spin of the colour work.

pro tip: If you want an abstract colour work for your beanie, be sure to not repeat the
same amount of colour to the next colour when changing colours For example, if you do
one row of pink, don’t do one row of green next, do 2 or 3 or 4! You can see the image
of my colour work below.

S/M & L/XL

1. ch 60
2. ch 1 and then hdc the row of ch sts until there is 10 left. Put a st marker and sc the last
10. You now will always sc the 10 st and hdc the rest for the entirety of the beanie.
3. ch 1 then sc blo to the st marker and hdc blo the rest of the row. Crocheting the blo
will give the beanie the ribbing effect and add a little extra elasticity to the it.
4. ch 1 then hdc blo to the stitch marker and the sc blo the rest.
5. Repeat step 3 and 4 until the rectangle measures 18 inches for a S/M and 21 inches for
L/XL. I recommend wrapping the rectangle around your head, if you can stretch it around your
head and both sides touch, you’re done! If it’s too loose or it doesn’t touch both sides, you’ll have
to keep crocheting or take away rows until it fits. See image below for reference.

After the completion of step 5.

Joining the sides of the beanie together.

MAKING THE TOQUE

Now we are going to work turning this rectangle into a tube and then a beanie!

S/M & L/XL

1. start by ch 1 then hdc blo or sc blo depending on which side of the stitch marker you
are starting on. While you crochet this next row, you’ll also feed the crochet hook into the
other side before you yarn over, connecting the two sides together as you crochet this
last row. See my video here for help: https://youtu.be/WCF9WszOcgA?t=733
2. When you get to the end, knot your work and trim the yarn.
3. Take any colour of yarn and thread it with a yarn needle. Now the end with the sc, take
the yarn needle and make long running stitches along the top edge of the hat. Pull the
yarn string tight to gather the top edge of the hat, and close it off. I just tied a knot and
then weaved in the ends.
4. Now actually weave in all the ends.
