The line graph compares the data about marriages and divorces in Great Britain during the 1975-2000

period.

Overall, it is evident from the graph that the figure for total marriages increased considerably, but the
number of first marriages witnessed a dramatic decline. Furthermore, the number of divorces also rose
significantly over the period.

There were about 500,000 marriages in the UK in 1975, this figure climbed steadily to 630,000 in 1985.
Despite a gradual decrease to 560,000 in 1995, the number grew progressively to 570,000 in 2000. On
the other hand, the figure for first marriages stood at 340,000 in 1975, which although experienced a
firm rise to 400,000 in 1985, declined heavily to 300,000 at the end of the surveyed period.

In 1975, there were approximately 150,000 second marriages in the UK, this number rose substantially
to 250,000 in the year of 2000. A similar trend can also be seen in the figure for divorces, which was
roughly 90,000 in 1975, had an astounding increase to 250,000 in 2000.
