Federale Stene (Pty) Ltd was established in 1958
and has been a leader in the clay brick industry ever
since. The company was acquired by die Lutzkie
Group of Companies in 2006 and still proudly
operates under the group until the present day.
The company employs more than 200 people and is

involved in various empowerment initiatives. Broad
Based Black Economic empowerment (B-BBEE) is
the cornerstone of our employment and business
policies, creating an environment where the whole
workforce benefits. We are currently a B-BBEE Level
3 contributor.
Our factory manufactures a wide range of genuine

clay bricks including plaster, semi face, face and
super bricks. All products are SABS Quality Approved
and are manufactured in accordance with ISO
Standards.
An extensive range of products is available in

various colours and textures ranging from light cream
to dark blue.
Federale Stene (Pty) Ltd aims to constantly improve

our customer service, quality of clay bricks as well
as explore new trends in the building industry. Our
team is dedicated to assisting homeowners, small
contractors, low-cost rural developments, building
material merchants, hospitals, schools, developers
and architects in choosing the best products for their
specific needs.
The company has been geared to facilitate the

substantial growth in the building and civil
construction industry by supplying high-quality SABS

Federale Stene is a proud Member of the Clay Brick
Association and is represented by Johan Humphries
(General Manager) on their board of Directors. The
Clay Brick Association of South Africa (CBA)
expands awareness, knowledge and support for clay
brick masonry. Members of the CBA are committed
to the production and supply of premium products to
the building and construction industries, as well as
end-users.
The CBA has recently partnered up with the

European Union in support of the Switch Africa
Green Project which is a three-year Sustainability
Initiative for the building industry where the focal
point is on promoting inclusive sustainable practices
in the South African Clay brick sector. The project
focuses on 1-3 sectors in the country with good
opportunities for advancing green business and SCP
practices.

SYSTEMS.
Our QMS Department is determined to surpass
expectations and vow to remain loyal to our
principles. We are passionate about our Quality
Management System, and strive to keep it well
documented and have records easily available.
Gap Analysis is our forte and is conducted by means

of Spot Checks and Internal Audits to ensure
continual improvement and ceaseless compliance.
Spot checks on work performance and product quality

ensure a high level of performance by employees.
Internal audits offers risk management and evaluates

the effectiveness of Federale Stene’s internal
controls, it also provides management with a
value-added service where flaws in a process may be
caught and corrected prior to external audits.

by means of Internal Training. Our Quality Committee
gathers monthly to converse on matters that has an
immense effect on our team morale and to realize

and provides assurance. Training needs are identified
by means of Planned Task Observations to benefit the

A Wellness plan is in full effect to ensure that

employees are fit for duty and sufficient resources are
available in regard to Personal Protective Equipment.

The first carbon footprint assessment at Federale

Stene was done by Promethean in 2015 and with the
assistance from Titan Laboratories, both companies
have aided Federale Stene to radically reduce the
usage of fossil fuels which resulted in a 15%
reduction of CO2 emissions.
Along with the implementation of this Energy

Management Program, Federale Stene is looking
forward to continuing to provide South Africa with
superior quality clay bricks that are leaving a low
carbon footprint so that generations to come can
continue building a sustainable legacy.
We are committed to, as far as reasonably possible,

ensure that with each task we commence we assess
and manage the impact it will have on the
environment.
