Some Numerical types are:


Num1: A supply of 400V, 50Hz is applied to a series R-C circuit. Calculate the
value of C if the power absorbed by resistor be 500 W at 150 V. What is the
energy stored in the capacitor ?
Num2: A series circuit has 10 ohm and 0.1 H. A direct voltage of 200V is suddenly
applied to it. Calculate :
(i) The voltage drop across the inductance at the time of switching on and at 0.01
sec. (ii) The flux linkages of these instants.

Num3: A 240 V, 100 Hz, A.C. source supplies a series R-L-C circuit with a capacitor
and a coil. If the coil has 55m resistance and a 7 mH inductance, calculate :
(a)The capacitance at resonant frequency 100 Hz. (b) Q-factor (c) The half power
frequencies of the circuits.

Num4: Explain the behaviour of series RLC circuit for AC signal. 7½ (b) What do
you understand by power factor ? What is its physical significance ?

Num5: A coil is connected in series with a noninductive resistance of 30  across


240 V, 50 Hz supply. The reading of voltmeter across coil is 180V and across the
resistance is 130 V. Calculate. (i) Power consumed by the coil. (ii) Power factor of
the whole circuit.

Num6: A coil is in series with a 20µF capacitor across a 230 V, 50 Hz supply. The
current taken by the circuit 10 A and power consumed is 200 W. Calculate the
inductance of the coil if the power factor of the circuit is leading and lagging. Also
sketch phasor diagram of each condition.
Num7: A 3-phase balanced load draws 10 kW power from a 400 V, 3-phase, 50
Hz, 4- wire supply at 0.8 lagging power factor : (i) Determine line current (ii)
What would be the line current if power factor raised to unity.

Num8: A resistance of 20 and inductance of 0.2H and capacitance of 100µF are
connected in series across 220V, 50 Hz mains. Determine impedance, current,
power and power factor of lag.

Num9: A 600 kVA 1-phase transformer has an efficiency of 92% at full load and
half load at Unity power factor. Determine its efficiency at 65% and 75% and 0.9
pf lagging.

Num10: A 230 V, 50 Hz sinusoidal supply is Connected across the following : (i)


Resistance of 25 (ii) An inductance of 0.5 H F. (iii) A capacitance of 100 Write
the expression for instantaneous current in each case.

Num11: A 3-wire, 3-phase supply feeds a load consisting of three equal resistors.
By how much is the load reduced if one of the resistor be removed when the load
is in : (a) Star (b) Delta.

Num12: Calculate the regulation of transformer in which ohmic drop is 1% and


reactance drop 5% of the voltage at the power factor 0.8 leading and 0.8 lagging.

Num13: A 230 V, 50 Hz sinusoidal supply is Connected across the following : (i)
