ANOVA
ANOVA
BSIE–1B
Three methods were used to provide instruction in science for the seventh grade. Method 1
included lab each week, Method 2 include lectures, and Method 3 had both lab and lec. The
table shows end-of-course test performance for the three methods. Which method is better?
1. Ho: There is no significant difference between the mean of the three different Methods
from different classes.
2. M1: p = .67399 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
M2: p = .24564 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
M3: p = .91968 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
3. PARAMETRIC (ONE-WAY ANOVA)
4. DISCUSSION
As shown in the result of the parametric measure using one-way Anova, the p-
value (0.004012) is less than the f-value (5.96376), so the null hypothesis is
rejected. Also, the p-value is less than the alpha. This means that the difference
between the mean of Method 1 with only lab, Method 2 with only lecture, and
Method 3 for combination is significant enough to reject the null hypothesis. It
also is blatantly revealed in the table that Method 3 with the combination of the
lab & lec has the highest mean. We can then decide that the third method is
significant enough to state that Method 3 has betterment technique in science
class at a 0.05 significance level.
In the result of the nonparametric measure using the Kruskal Wallis test, the p-
value is less than the alpha [p<a], so the null hypothesis is decidedly rejected.
Also, the p-value (0.00403) is less than the h-statistic value (11.0269). When
depending on the median of the three methods, it’s obvious that Method 3 has
the highest median and that’s enough to state that Method 3 has a better
technique.
INDEPENDENT
ONE-WAY ANOVA (PARAMETRIC) KRUSKAL WALLIS TEST(NONPARA)
Assuming that the given data are dependent samples.
1. Ho: There is no significant difference between the mean of the three different methods
from the same class.
2. M1: p = .67399 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
M2: p = .24564 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
M3: p = .91968 [p>a] (normal distribution) PARAMETRIC
3. PARAMETRIC (ONE-WAY REPEATED ANOVA)
Method 2 40.4
b 5.89869 .005122 0.05 Reject Ho Significant
Method 3 65.44^a
Legend : Means with the same superscript did not significantly differ at alpha =0.05
4. DISCUSSION
In the result of the nonparametric measure using the Friedman test, the p-value
is less than the alpha [p<a], so the null hypothesis is decidedly rejected. Also, the
p-value (0.02705) is less than the X²r-value (7.22). When depending on the
median of the three methods, it’s obvious that Method 3 has the highest median
and that’s enough to state that Method 3 has a better technique.
