RICARDO PALMA
(1833-1919)

Ricardo Palma was born in 1833 in Lima, Peru. He was a romantic write, journalist and

Peruvian politician. He is famous for his book "Tradiciones Peruanas". He had two children,

Clemente and Angelica. In 1883 he was appointed director to the "Biblioteca Nacional". He

had a disinterested work of reconstruction of this institution, for which he requested books

to different countries, giving him the name of "The Beggar Librarian". In 1892 he represented

Peru in the fourth centenary of the Discovery of America celebrated in Spain.
