HOMEOSTASIS

MODULE 9: FEEDBACK MECHANISM

HOMEOSTASIS
1. Identify the function of each organ system and use the word in a sentence
A. Digestive
Function: Breaks down food and turning it into energy for body consumption.
Sentence: Foods are broken down in our digestive tract.

B. Integumentary
Function: It protects the body from different kinds of damage from outside, and
lost of water.
Sentence: The integumentary system of a fish are scales.

C. Muscular
Function: It is responsible for movement of the body and stability of the joints.
Sentence: People going to the gym wants to have a muscular body.

D. Skeletal
Function: Its function is to support the structure of our body.
Sentence: He suffered a serious skeletal injury.

E. Respiratory
Function: It is responsible of absorbing oxygen from air to be use by organs to
work.
Sentence: The respiratory system is one of the major organ system of the body.

F. Circulatory
Function: Its function is to pump blood and to carry it away and towards the
heart.
Sentence: One of the major organs of the circulatory system is the heart.

HOMEOSTASIS

Sharing
1. I was okay but I feel a little tired.
2. My pulse rate before the exercise has exceed the normal pulse rate of 70bpm.
After the exercise, my pulse rate was even faster than before.
3. The change of the pulse rate happened because I was doing work and that
would require energy as well oxygen so my heart pumps faster than before
supply energy and oxygen by circulating a bit faster.
4. Yes, there is, just what rewritten in number 3, my circulatory system and
respiratory system are keeping or maintaining my internal condition while I am
exercising.
Let’s analyze!
1. My experiences leading to homeostasis are having a normal temperature in a
cold/rainy day. Also drinking water and my kidneys control the amount of excess
water to discharge from my body.
2. Homeostasis is essential for us living organism for us to maintain a normal
internal state despite a change of our environment. If we fail to have
homeostasis, serious condition may occur that would lead our body into a critical
state.
3. One of the disorders that is a result from the disruption of homeostasis is
diabetes, where people do not produce enough insulin that is needed by our
body to maintain our sugar levels.
What mechanism are there to cool the body down?
- Conduction, convection, radiation and evaporation.
1. We can observe homeostasis in a body’s temperature. When we are in a cold
place, our body maintains a warm temperature while in a hot place, our body
gives off heat to maintain a cool temperature.
2. Yes, there is.
3. Yes, there is.

HOMEOSTASIS

Verification
1. Example of homeostasis is the maintaining of blood sugar in our body. Negative
feedback is the one that is use to obtain homeostasis. If a person lacks insulin
causing the pancreas to produce more insulin to maintain normal blood sugar
level. Just like when a person is low in blood sugar, there is a negative feedback
such as the presence of glucose will make the liver to produce blood sugar to
maintain the normal state.
2. Some organisms maintain steady internal conditions by exposing themselves
from heat when their temperature is low, such as cold-blooded animals. While
some animals can maintain warm-blooded animals.
3. If homeostasis is not attained by an individual, diseases would occur and the cell
would die.
