Orchard Hideout Problem Write-up

Problem:
Our friends Madie and Clyde want some seclusion from the world. They bought a land
plot in the shape of a circle, and plan to plant trees on the plot excluding the middle, where
they will have their cabin. They Planted 50 trees to the east of their house, and 50 trees to the
west. The trees ended on their property line. They then added more trees, 50 to the north and
another 50 to the south, again on the exact boundary of their property. After this, they added
rows going east and west, using the north and south trees as the center of each row. This filled
the entire plot excluding the center. Now, they are wondering how long it will take for the
trees to cover their line of sight completely.

Procedure (Step-by-Step):
1) We made a perpendicular line that went through the point (25, 0.5) . That way we
know what point it would hit on our line of sight when the tree grew.
2) From that we found the radius of the tree when it hit the line, for this, we did the
distance formula from points (1,0) and (0.9996, 0.02).
3) After finding the distance from the tree to the line of sight we needed to find how long
it would take to get there in years. We did this by finding the area initial. We used the
area equation (a=(3.14)r^2) using the given information of the current radius.
4) After that, we had to find the final area by using the final radius and adding it to the
area equation.
5) After we had all our variables (in inches) we put them into the equation,
A(f)=1.5(t)+A(i) where we were finding (t) in years.
6) We solved the equation to get our solution of t=11.73 years

Solution:
The solution we found was it would take 11.73 years for the tree to intrude on the line of sight.
